BuzzFeed Viral Video Experiment: Caitlin Shewbrooks

After Ella’s visit, I intended to create a video on what some would call a controversial topic. Her advice was to take a debate and make it into a short video. After polling a handful of my peers, I found ketchup to be the most common french fry dip among other minor competitors. My video shows a side-by-side of how people commonly think they should eat fries, and how they should eat fries, dipping them in a chocolate shake. I made the marketing plan a call to action to tag people who should try this delicious snack. I know that in my polling, a lot of people were happy to see that others were dipping fries in shakes as well.

The goals of my plan were to ultimately get put on the BuzzFeed BFF page. I wanted 50 views but also 50 comments since my overall goal was to get people to tag their friends. My main objective were to start a debate, since on BuzzFeed this is why the majority of people comment and  interact with quizzes.

I tried to get most of my views on Facebook by directly uploading it. I achieved 224 Facebook views, 20 likes and 2 comments. I tried to get a commentary going on the post, but no one took to the call to action.

People enjoyed the video, but I think maybe it’s too long of a video to get people interacting. I also think maybe I should have made more provocative text. My friends on Facebook are not the people who would tag others on my post. I also do think that people may feel weird tagging their friends on a friend’s post as opposed to a random page. I was not able to measure in comments like I intended. I would remake this video with the edits the class gave me, and maybe a more crazy, shorter version.

How do you eat your fries?
