#Mayochup or #MayoFAIL?

The condiment brand Heinz has recently released its new plans to release a product called “Mayochup” which is a combination of Ketchup and Mayonnaise. They released a Twitter poll on April 11, 2018. They told Twitter users that if they got 500,000 votes for “yes” then they would release the product. Many Twitter users responded when Heinz stated that they would be releasing the new condiment. There was a pretty decent divide between those who were Tweeting positively, those who thought it was disgusting, and finally those who believe that this product was already on the shelves. All of the Tweets that are posted below include the hashtag “#Mayochup” which was first created by Heinz.

  1. I love Mayochup — I need it in American stores!!!! Its funny to see something as innocent as a PR/advertising campaign for a new condiment have such a heated debate on Twitter. The platform never fails to create great, entertaining content.

  2. Hi Anne,

I definitely don’t know how I feel towards Mayochup. It doesn’t surprise me that there was a lot of controversial opinions about the condiment on social media. I love that you chose to focus on all of these tweets. It was a very timely blog post, since Mayochup was just blowing up as we handed this assignment in.

    Great Job!

  3. As a Puerto Rican, I think it’s my duty to call this a #MayFail. Like the last tweet in your post mentioned, people on the island have been combining these two condiments for decades, and we call it MayoKetchup. Heinz should definitely make some version of the product to put on shelves, but they should have done some more research and give credit where credit is due.

  4. Hi Anne,

I was so happy to see someone do #mayochup! When this was blowing up, I have to admit I did vote on Heinz’s Twitter account in order to get mayochup to the United States. I wasn’t surprised that there were controversial tweets about this, as it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea! The tweets you picked were a great combination to cover the topic of #Mayochup, good job!

  5. This is great! I think you included some great tweets from both sides of the #Mayochup debate. This is definitely a controversial matter-even my roommates and I were arguing about this. It looks a bit odd to me, but I would still probably give it a try. Great job.

  6. I think this is a really funny topic of conversation. There are a lot of opinions about mayochup! I think it’s really clever and and twitter definitely had many controversial reviews about its release. It should be released EVERYWHERE.
