NHsmc’s Influence on My Twitter

Influence

1/17 – 491 Twitter followers, Klout score of 39

4/18 – 499 Twitter followers, Klout score of 48

Over the course of this semester, I gained 8 followers on twitter. While this seems small, I do not think it is much of a failure considering I had a moderate following of 491 to start. The change in my Koult score comes from a more steady stream of content thanks to the assignments in this class, and better engagement on my tweets. I began using more rich media and more hashtags because of the assignments, creating a more inviting experience for my followers.

In this first assignment, I took a picture of the fridge in my apartment with magnet letters and numbers. It shows a social medium that is physical rather than digital. Before this class, I rarely used rich media in my tweets, so the impressions and engagements were higher than normal.

This tweet did not perform as well as the first. This was a quote tweet, but one that linked to an article. People are less inclined to follow something to its beginning if there are too many steps to get there.

This was probably my most successful tweet under #NHsmc. The video was short enough to be quickly finished, and the content did not rely on sound. It was simple and relatable to my audience.

This was my most tag/@ heavy tweet for the class. JK Rowling retweeted me three years ago and then undid it a few months later. This tweet is a humblebrag. While the impressions were decent, the unique hashtags did not catch on.

The food likers have logged on. People love food online, so I should have added more specific hashtags to broaden my audience. However, I do feel like going hashtag crazy hurts your voice and makes you look follower thirsty.

#MakingAMurderer was trending so I jumped in with my opinion on the updated news on Brendan Dassey’s case. The impressions were high because I jumped on the trending hashtag, but my engagements were low because I did not add much to the conversation.

This is Cooper! I got a decent amount of likes and impressions but should have included more dog hashtags to increase all of those figures.

This was the second tweet of the tweetdeck assignment. It did slightly better than the first one. The picture is a little taller, but I do not think there is any reason this one did slightly better than the first one.

Every Zuckerberg hashtag during the hearings was so flooded that it was hard to make any noise without rich media or external links. Like the Making a Murderer tweet, this example also shows that hasghtags increase impressions but the content has to drive the engagement.

Finally, my best strategic tweet outside of #NHsmc. The Theta Tau event caused a lot of stir on social media. After reading the original Daily Orange article about the videos, I scrolled down to the comments to find this man spewing multiple contradictory and confusing takes within a few sentences. It was weird and sad and funny and I wanted to share it, which is always the best recipe for good content on twitter.
