Personal Growth One Tweet at a Time

Twitter before this class was where I logged on to see funny posts and look at dog pictures. After this class i realized how important Twitter has become to our media and how it can be used strategically to build ones brand. And of course I still use it to see dog pictures.

When I started I as at 306 followers and now I am at 318 followers which means I gained 4% new followers. I would not consider myself to have been successful in building a larger following. To back this up further my clout score went down from 29 to 23. I think this is because when I checked it at the end we have not had as many class assignments because we had switched to Instagram and so I was not keeping up with my tweeting as much. I think if I had continued to tweet as regularly as we had been doing then my scores and followers would have been hire. But I would say I was successful on Instagram. I created a tester account for this class. I currently have 41 followers already and am only following 12 people. Over all I think I took away valuable information on both sites that I can bring with me to my summer internship and future jobs. I also feel confident if I keep preforming these exercises I can continue to build my social media influence and self brand.

My first tweet I did for this class was introducing myself to my professor. It was one of my more popular tweets because it included an image and because my followers would recognize that is something I would post.

My next tweet for the class I was disappointed by the engagement it received. I thought it would gain more attraction because it was also an image but it only got three favorites. I think what did wrong here was the time of day it was posted.

When we had to copy someone’s voice I was lost at who to copy. I decided on DJ Khalid because I thought it would be funny. The tweet only received one favorite. I think if I had posted this earlier in the morning and included more hashtags it would have been more successful. I learned that for a tweet to get more engagement I need to included more then the words whether it be hashtags or images.

As I mentioned before I love using Twitter to see dog post. When we assigned to make a twitter moment I instantly decided to do one of dogs. This tweet did better than my few before it. I was successful here because I was on brand for myself and it included fun images. The tweet encouraged people to want to click the post. I think I could have gained even more engagement if I had added in hashtags.

When we were assigned to tweet at someone and quote the tweet I chose Chrissy Teigen and a recipe she was talking about. I think I was unsuccessful in adding in more hashtags but I believe I was successful in quoting the tweet and adding humor to the post to engage people.

Our thread assignment was one of my favorite assignments. I had actually been planning to tweet about this story that had happened to me for awhile but never knew how to fit it into one tweet. When we learned about threading I knew it was the perfect way to tell this funny story. I ended up getting a lot of engagement on the post.

One of our next assignments was to post more than one image. I posted a funny picture making fun of one of my friends with a caption people have probably heard so they could relate to it. I think I executed this assignment well because I got good engagement, I kept up with wanting to make my twitter funny, and was relatable to my follower base who is mostly college students.

The next tweet I think i did a great job on hitting a topic that was trending at the time. Facebook has been under heat for months with scandals and then snapchat broke into the news with updates that did not impress users. I think by bringing the two together it was relatable content and content people were interested in. I think to have been even more successful tagging snap or facebook or adding in more hashtags would have helped.

This next assignment I was extremely disappointed in the results of. I brought back one of my older tweets that had done really well and received 19 favorites. I decided on this tweet because it was not a tweet assigned for class but something funny I had thought of. I added the class hashtag thinking that was enough to draw in more of an audience. I was wrong I got no engagement. I realized after I should have given it a new caption or tagged people or put more hashtags.

Learning to use analytics was one of my favorite parts of the class. I think this is some of the more important information I took away from this class. I think having this information will help me in my career and the rest of college. I got good engagement on this tweet and think that it was a relatable topic that would draw people in.

I learned in this class how much information and how useful twitter can be. I learned how much impact these major social media platforms have on our society today and how having a better understanding of them is a tool we need. I feel more confident using these platforms that I thought I was so knowledgable in. And of course here is one last dog tweet!

And one last shameless plug!
