Watch Out . . . It’s the Story of the Meme of the Month

Over the last week, I have learned a great deal about how to successfully promote on social media. I made a meme I believed to be humorous and hoped it would go viral. After publishing the meme to Imgur, I used a few social media platforms to market the meme.

My objective was to reach 1,000 views; I came close with 779 views, which was more than the 500-view objective set by my professor. I was proud of the result of my first campaign. I made a social media marketing plan which outlined what I would say to promote the meme on various platforms.

I believe I got most of my views in the first 24 hours from sharing the photo to the Imgur community. In addition, I got a large sum of my views in the 24 hours following my Twitter Ad. I received 1,621 impressions because of the Twitter Ad. Below, one can see my Twitter Webcard tweet and how I ran the campaign on Twitter Ads.

While I had great success, there were parts of the campaign that I do not think worked as well. For example, I made a snap story with the meme and said, “On Twitter @jakesilverman18 interact with my meme!”

I do not think it is affective to convince people to go from one social media platform to the next. Besides the one snap story, I would not change too many components of my campaign. I used affective and consistent hashtags (#Halloween, #Babies, #Meme) throughout and I have the views and impressions to prove it.

  1. I thought your meme was extremely cute and surprised it didn’t get more views with the hashtags you used. I also got a heightened amount of views on the first day and found that to be the most successful. I like how you incorporated your twitter handle on another social media site to help promote yourself with the meme being the incentive. Overall I think you did a really nice job and created a great meme.
