Wrapping Up: Twitter Top 10 & Influencer

PART I: INFLUENCER

  • In the beginning of the semester (8/29), I had 42 followers on Twitter. By the end of the semester (11/20) my followers were 72. My Twitter profile showed a 71.43% growth.
    • What worked: I think most of my new followers were gained through similar hashtags and posts. There were some of my top tweets that had more engagements than others, and I gained some followers from this. I also gained followers from the class. Though I lost followers along the way, I was still surprised by the amount that I gained.
    • What didn’t work: I think that I lost some followers from tweeting too much content for class and not enough of my own tweets. That being said, I gained many more followers through tweets that were assigned and hashtags used for assignments.
  • Klout: my Klout score went from 18.37 to 36.44 showing a 98.37% increase over 90 days.

PART II: EXECUTION (Top 10 Tweets)

My top tweets directly affected the number of followers I gained. From the tweets with the most engagement and impression, I received new followers. Here are the most successful tweets created throughout the semester:

1:

Impression: 453
Engagement: 15
Analysis: This tweet was an assignment where I had to suggest a way to improve a tweet. I chose two actors from my favorite show, Gilmore Girls, who tweeted together. I tagged each of these actors and used emojis and hashtags to gain engagement from their followers. One of the actors, Scott Patterson, even liked my tweet!

2:

Impression: 289
Engagement: 59
Analysis: This tweet was an assignment where we had to embed Snapchat videos onto our timeline. I think the reason this tweet worked well was because I used #strangerthings, which is a popular show. I also used emojis. I also had engagement from students in class who participated in the videos.

3:

Impression: 170
Engagement: 17
Analysis: For this tweet, I tagged a show and used a trending hashtag, #fourwords. This combination gained engagement because the hashtag had to do with the show’s revival, and both were all over Twitter at the time. I also used a gif to gain impressions.

4:

Impression: 162
Engagement: 0
Analysis: This tweet was an assignment where we had to share our opinion about something. Once again, I chose to tag my favorite show and the streaming service that created the show’s revival. I think I had high impressions because of who I tagged, but no one engaged with the tweet.

5:

Impression: 142
Engagement: 2
Analysis: This tweet was made right after the presidential election. I believe it became one of my top tweets because, even though I didn’t tag anyone, my #whatthehell was relevant to how people on Twitter felt after the election.

6:

Impression: 132
Engagement: 8
Analysis: This tweet was created as part of a contest. People on campus were delivering free coffee to anyone who tweeted out why they needed coffee. I think I had high impressions because the contest responded back to me, and also because I used emojis and a gif.

7:

Impression: 123
Engagement: 0
Analysis: This tweet was made as part of my viral content. It was not a promoted tweet. I think it gained impressions because a photo was attached to the tweet.

8:

Impression: 113
Engagement: 7
Analysis: This tweet was a call to action to get people out and vote. The assignment asked to use a Snpachat filter and upload onto the timeline. I think this tweet ended up in my top 10 because it’s a funny photo and because #vote was trending at the time.

9:

Impression: 113
Engagement: 9
Analysis: I created this tweet after actor, Scott Patterson liked one of my tweets (see #1). I believe this tweet received high engagement and impressions because of who I tagged and the gif I used.

10:

Impression: 107
Engagement: 7
Analysis: This tweet was an assignment where we had to show some of our work on our timeline. This tweet actually drove views to my class group’s Facebook page. I think by tagging Newhouse, this may have also increased engagement and impressions.
