Personal Influence Growth and Analysis & Top 10 Tweets/Posts

The number of my Twitter (@Chinazhanning) followers increased from 0 (Jan. 18) to 32 (April. 19). My Klout score increased from 0 (Jan. 18) to 32.79 (April. 19). Some techniques for increasing my influence and network which worked well include:

  1. Using various popular hashtags to post tweets about hot issues.
  2. Replying frequently to some influential accounts.
  3. Following and interacting frequently with some accounts that have the same interest with me or know who I am in reality.
  4. Sharing independent and unique views about issues. Content is king.
  5. Posting some interesting social news with the link to articles or news.
  6. Using bilingual words to post twitters about issues which are related to both America and China.

However, some techniques which did not work well include:

  1. Posting too personalized content such as my own hobby or interest.
  2. Using academic words to post.
  3. Interacting with some popular accounts mechanically.

1. Impressions: 575, Engagements: 0.

Although the engagement of this tweet is 0, the score of impressions is the highest among all of my tweets with the hashtag #NHsmtp, meaning that this Tweet is the one that is seen by the highest number of users. I checked and provided users with useful historical knowledge about one special day in the U.S. I didn’t use this strategy frequently because I did not set my Twitter account as one special account offering historical knowledge or memory. However, the highest number of impressions of this Tweet illustrates that historical knowledge can interest users and amplify the influence of Twitter account.

2. Impressions: 431, Engagements: 0.

Although the engagement of this tweet is 0, the score of impressions is the second highest. Besides the hashtag #NHsmtp, I used a popular hashtag #ICYMI, which might increase the chance of being seen by users. Also, I embedded a video about President Obama, which might also increase the popularity of this Tweet. The high number of impressions of this Tweet illustrates that media variety, famous figures mentioned and popular hashtags are useful for increasing influence and network.

3. Impressions: 206, Engagements: 7.

This Tweet has the highest score of engagements. I used funny pictures to describe my daily life in Syracuse with the hope of getting sympathy with people living in Syracuse. This Tweet obtained the highest number of likes in all of my Tweets with the hashtag #NHsmtp. Also, the high number of engagements brought about the high number of impressions. In conclusion, humorous photos, the theme of daily life, and emotional sympathy with users are three useful strategies which can be used to increase the influence of social media.

4. Impressions: 202, Engagements: 3.

I posted this tweet containing a gif photo using both English and Chinese words to explain. Gif photo is always a good strategy to show humor in social media. Besides, using bilingual words to post tweets is a useful strategy to enhance access to tweets and to draw the attention of users. I used one of the lyrics of one Chinese pop song to describe the expression of Melania Trump. This twitter got two likes, one from a Chinese follower, and another one from an American follower.

5. Impressions: 180, Engagements: 6.

I created a moment about a hot political issue in this Tweet. The links to the news reports about the same hot issues in this moment can increase the popularity and the influence of Tweets. Followers would like to see the studious analysis about one hot issue. Also, this Tweet was liked by an influential account (@jmgrygiel), which might contribute to the high number of engagements. The Twitter users need to draw the attention of influential accounts using strategies such as setting up hashtags in order to strive for more engagements.

6. Impressions: 156, Engagements: 6.

In this Tweet, I used various photos to show the complex sceneries of a city and quoted a classic description about this city from the lines of a popular TV series. Original media work can draw the attention of users. Also, quoting classic description about one thing can lead to emotional sympathy with Twitter users. I didn’t use too many photos in my Tweets frequently. However, the only two Tweets containing static photos belonged to my Top 6 Tweets, illustrating the heavy influence of photos in Tweets.

7. Impressions: 151, Engagements: 2.

In this Tweet, I actively engaged with some famous and popular Twitter accounts. Also, I used the popular hashtag #FollowFriday and attended the popular activity on Twitter. Even though the content of this Tweet was thin, this Tweet still got 151 impressions. Apparently, using popular hashtags and attending some public activities of social media could increase the influence of my Twitter account.

8. Impressions: 153, Engagements: 1.

I retweeted one of my previous influential tweets and analyzed the reason why my previous tweet became popular. I think the reason why this Tweet became more influential than it should be was that I carefully wrote some words about how to produce excellent political news. Sharing interesting and serious viewpoints about issues with Twitter followers can improve the influence of Twitter account.

9.Impressions: 134, Engagements: 2.

I made a gif picture and posted it using one popular hashtag #ComplimentYourEnemies. Classic snapshots or motion graphs containing the interesting expression or action can draw the attention of users, especially when these clips come from the popular media sources. Also, attending popular hashtag activities would be helpful for increasing the popularity of my Tweets.

10. Impressions: 90, Engagements: 5.

I actively engaged with one of my followers and got the response from her and from one another follower. Also, I used  “profanity” of Twitter as an interesting issue to initiate engagement. I think following some accounts that have the same interest with me and interacting frequently with them can improve engagement and further enhance impressions.
