I came into this course with a new Twitter account, after being inactive on my old account since high school. In addition to class assignments, creating a new account was a steps towards establishing a professional social media presence for myself. I began the semester with 0 followers and ended with 106 followers, thus achieving an 100% growth rate. In addition, my social media Klout score increased from 28 to 34 based on my tweets and activity. The increase in both my klout score and Twitter following is due to my efforts to thoughtfully engage with companies and post creative content.

Happy #LoveYourPetDay! Missing my squad back in Chicago today, thankfully Snickers is keeping my bed warm for me 🐶😻 Any other college kids missing their pets from home? @HappyDogBarkery @PAWSChicago #nhsmc https://t.co/ZiZ0Y2KApb pic.twitter.com/qLcQMqGL0P
— Nicole Williams (@nicole28marie) February 20, 2018
Analysis: By forming the connection between a trending hashtag #LoveYourPetDay and a nationally-known animal rescue, this caught @PAWSChicago attention; they retweeted this because it was relevant to their content. The use of 2 forms of rich media, in addition to popular emojis, also helped increase its organic promotions and made it my most viewed tweet of the semester with 2,099 total impressions.
2. Engage with an influencer with you want to connect with
Love this editorial by @FCBglobal CEO Carter Murray-diversity in the workplace is so essential in fostering creativity and innovative #advertising #NHsmc https://t.co/09sio3ZH2b
— Nicole Williams (@nicole28marie) February 26, 2018
The CEO of FCB Global was someone I wanted to connect with, but unfortunately did not have a Twitter. To get the company’s attention instead, I tweeted a link to an editorial Murray wrote that was trending on Ad Age and received a retweet from @FCBGlobal. I could have used a few more hashtags to further promote this organically, such as #diversity, #creativity, etc. This tweet received 1,357 impressions overall.
3. Follow Friday
Although I missed #FollowFriday, here are 3 of my favorite London tourism blogs (@visitlondon, @Secret_LDN, @aladyinlondon) that are giving me major nostalgia on #MotivationMonday #nhsmc #Travel #London https://t.co/9fHVeHw0vz pic.twitter.com/ov0jJvzjoS
— Nicole Williams (@nicole28marie) February 19, 2018
One mistake I made with this is that I tweeted it on Monday after #FollowFriday, so going forward I want to make sure I use hashtags like #FollowFriday, #ThrowbackThursday, on their actual days in order to receive the maximum reach and impressions. However, two of the accounts I mentioned (@Secret_LDN and @aladyinlondon) favorited my Tweet and @aladyinlondon replied and thanked me for mentioning her. This was my first conversation with someone outside of our class. Also, the use of rich media also helped the tweet gain organic impressions.
4. Viral Content Challenge Meme-Uber Driver
Me every weekend in an @Uber in Syracuse @diggymoreland #NHsmc https://t.co/OkRuS4fbSx via @imgur
— Nicole Williams (@nicole28marie) April 3, 2018
Since my promoted Twitter web card partially cut off the text of my meme, I tweeted it out organically and posted the link through Imgur to generate engagement from my followers and the subjects, @Uber and Bachelor contestant @DiggyMoreland in hopes that they would favorite or engage with the Tweet. While @DiggyMoreland did not, this tweet received 2 retweets, 3 favorites, and my meme received over 5,000 views on Imgur.
5. Periscope Challenge
Catch me live on #periscope attempting to break records at Manny’s #NHsmc #GoOrange 🍊 https://t.co/Fhm35ZlzlK
— Nicole Williams (@nicole28marie) March 26, 2018
Promoting our periscope challenge on Twitter helped us receive over 10 hearts on our challenge. In order to generate more engagement, I could have mentioned the Manny’s twitter account or tagged it in the location to drive more traffic to the store, or used a few more hashtags such as #TShirtChallenge, #BleedOrange, #mannyssyracuse, etc.
6. #ICYMI Post
ICYMI: Still not over @BrunoMars skipping Chicago on his #24kMagicFinale with @CardiB. One of the best live shows I've ever seen #BrunoMars #legend #nhsmc https://t.co/aZnWxbyLcX
— Nicole Williams (@nicole28marie) February 14, 2018
My ICYMI received 472 impressions, but only 1 favorite among my followers. Making #ICYMI a hashtag so it could be in the trending category could have generated more engagement.
7. Google Trends
As a Midwest transplant who grew up on @Starbucks, I definitely feel like I'm in the minority when it comes to @dunkindonuts lovers on the East Coast #starbucksforever #NHsmc pic.twitter.com/lSi6vv5N4b
— Nicole Williams (@nicole28marie) March 5, 2018
I grew up in the #southwest and had never been to a @dunkindonuts before starting college and I'm not a fan now #NHsmc #starbucksforever
— Katelyn Faubel (@newhousenewsie) March 5, 2018
My Google Trends tweet also gave me an opportunity to engage with another student in the class, Katelyn, as well as our TA Lillion (443 Impressions).
8. Twitter Poll
What was the best moment of the #Oscars last night? #NHsmc
— Nicole Williams (@nicole28marie) March 5, 2018
One improvement I would make to this tweet is adding more hashtags, such as #TimesUp, #GetOut, #JordanPeele, etc., in order to contribute to the conversations about specific moments during the Oscars (430 impressions).
9. Connect with an influencer/Tweet about an issue you care about
Hi @EmilyWWeiss, I am an OG @glossier fan and love how you are participating in the #HowWellIWin campaign for gender equality in the workplace-so important be aware of as I prepare to enter the workforce in a few years #GenderPayGap #NHsmc
— Nicole Williams (@nicole28marie) February 26, 2018
The CEO of Glossier is someone I’ve always admired as an aspiring business executive and female role model. She recently participated in a campaign for gender equality that was trending on Twitter, so I reached out to her in hopes that she would respond with a favorite or like. Formulating the tweet as a question could have generated a response from her and/or more engagement.
10. Zuckerberg hearing-rich media tweet
When someone steps on your foot and you have to pretend like it's fine but it's not…#Zuckerberg #NHsmc #ZuckerbergHearing pic.twitter.com/OdYSmovS3V
— Nicole Williams (@nicole28marie) April 16, 2018
Zuckerberg’s blank face was already a trending meme circulating on Twitter, so I thought I would use the meme and add my own caption that fit with his facial expression. While the tweet only had 337 impressions, I had high engagement with 1 retweet and 4 favorites.
