It is the end of the semester and I finally get to look at how much my influence on Twitter has grown. I was quite shocked at the results; I mean, I know I’m sassy and informative on Twitter, but I didn’t actually think people would like it. Although, it looks like they did:

On top of a 51% increase of my Twitter followers, I also gained 12.3 points, or 53%, on my Klout score within the past 90 days. My lowest score was 23.87, and the highest was 39.00. That 39 score came on Nov. 12, and I looked at my Twitter Analytics to see what the heck happened around those days to help boost my influence. Nov. 9 through 12 was right after I attended PRSSA National Conference in Atlanta. That was also when we made a positive tweet about ourselves and another student in class, and started to promote our viral social media content. I found that when I tagged a student or influencer with a higher follower count in a post that contains an incredibly positive message (or food), my Twitter engagements and impressions skyrocketed. These larger influencers included Bloomingdales, PRSSA National Conference, Newhouse PR and BuzzFeedFood.
I noticed that when I was not hopping on the media bandwagon, or the class bandwagon (for class assignments), and just speaking my mind on Twitter, my engagements decreased. The impressions were still around a similar point, but the lack of engagement did not lead to an increase in my follower count. Being positive, tweeting about relevant news and organizations and consistently tweeting every day aided in my growth and networking potential on this social media platform.
