Going Viral

This past week, I have been focused on the objective of reaching 500+ views on an original meme, which I had posted to Imgur…

senioritis at its finest

The purpose of this meme was to target high school/college students, who understand what it’s like to struggle and be overwhelmed with schoolwork. College memes are fairly popular on social media, which was another reason I chose to create content related to school.

In addition to sharing the meme on Imgur, I was required to promote it with a Twitter webcard…

At the end of the campaign, my meme reached 327 views on Imgur. I was glad the number of views was above 100, which was my minimum objective, but a little surprised I didn’t hit 500 by the end of the campaign. My meme did very well in class, but I think this is definitely because it was shown to a class full of college juniors and seniors, who I knew would be able to relate to the subject of my meme. While the targeted paid advertising helped because I was able to define a specific target audience, most of the views seemed to come from Imgur alone. I learned that the subject of your meme plays a huge role in whether or not it will go viral, and when creating a specific social media campaign, you should make sure you know that your audience will be able to relate to your message.
