How can we bring the world together? That is the question that remains in many people’s minds today. Two words, social media. Are there downsides to social media you may ask? Yes, of course there are, as there are positives and negatives to everything. Yet, I believe that through social media, the world is becoming closer, and even more specifically, through food.
Food is one topic that I can almost positively say that most people are obsessed with. Whether its eating the yummiest food and documenting your crazy “food porn,” or watching oozing and colorful food videos on various social media platforms, most of us are a part of the craze. Food is such a vital component of everyday life, which is why social media is helping unite people through their love of food. Through various Facebook food groups, BuzzFeed food articles, interactive food tweets, and insane chocolate videos, the world is realizing that many of us have many similarities… especially if the topic of “convo” is food.

Ok, well back to business considering the fact that I am significantly hungrier! People are coming together, liking each other’s food Instagram’s, commenting and reposting on different Twitter posts, and sharing their favorite recipes, food posts, and websites. How is that for bringing the world together, through social media, in a delicious way!? Lets make sure that the subject of food on social media stays in the “recipe” to bring the world together!
I love the angle you took on “bringing the world closer together.” Food definitely is a uniting force in all different cultures and social media can truly enhance this unity. In addition, just seeing that delicious dessert bar above put a smile on my face. Food makes people happy.
This is such an interesting approach! Food is such a cultural staple, and something so near and dear to people, and social media is re-popularizing cooking and baking. The rise of Pinterest, the Tasty channel on Facebook, and so much more is bringing a lot of eyes and shares to those platforms. My explore page on Instagram (an algorithm made up by posts you are most likely to click on) is almost exclusively cookie and cake decorating videos and recipes.
