This class was my first real experience using Twitter. I started from a completely blank slate and at the start of the semester with 0 followers. Over the course of the semester, my follower count slowly grew and today I have reached a total of 27 followers.
When I created my profile, my follower count had the greatest increase because that is when I followed close friends and classmates. Throughout the semester my follower count steadily grew from the hashtags I used and people that I tagged in my tweets. One huge surge in my follower count came from the Viral Content Challenge, I posted the meme I created on my Instagram story and some of my followers on Instagram liked the tweet and followed me as well.
Top 10 Tweets:
My top tweet from the semester is the meme I created for the viral content challenge. I didn’t expect to get so many likes on this tweet, and still to date this has been my best performing tweet. Along with likes, it helped me gain followers because I also shared it on Instagram.
This is one of my favorite tweets because this was the first time I interacted with someone I didn’t know on twitter. I loved the wording of the original tweet and I myself am a Libra so I thought it would be the perfect ICYMI tweet. The original poster liked my retweet and followed me.
It was fun using someone else’s voice and style in a tweet, it allowed me to experiment and tweet something that I might not have otherwise. This was one of my first tweets, and one of the first that got any likes so I was proud of my progress at that time. After learning what I know now, if I posted this today I would have included hashtags or tagged @weratedogs to get more engagement.
What do y’all call it?🥤 #TwitterPoll #nhsmc

This tweet was inspired by an argument that my roommate and I were having so I decided to to make it a poll and see what everyone else thought. I was worried because it was such a simple question that it wouldn’t get any engagement but it ended up receiving 8 votes (even though the engagement numbers only say 2). I learned that simple is better especially in a tweet.
I really liked this GIF I used and I tweeted this right after the Emmys. This was one of the first times I experimented with hashtags and I think it helped increase the engagement on this post.
I saw this meme frame on Instagram and I thought it was so funny so I created this meme. This was the first time I had ever created a meme so I tried to make it as funny and relatable as possible. I got a few likes but no followers from this post.
This tweet was from the trending hashtag assignment, I saw the trend tomorrow is October and it made me think of the true start of fall. This was the first time I tweeted about something trending and it did improve my engagement, even though it didn’t get that many likes, it got a like from someone who doesn’t follow me. I will definitely tweet about trends in the future.
I follow a few accounts that post inspirational quotes and motivation so I wanted to emulate that in my tweets. I found this picture and I liked the fact that it was short and sweet. When I posted it, I realized that the shape of the photo wasn’t the best for the mobile version of Twitter because the photo cut off. Now when I tweet pictures, I double check that they will actually look good in the feed.
For my first media post, I tweeted pictures of my trip to Italy. I loved these photos and they all went really well together so I knew they would look good in a collage. I tweeted this very early in the semester, if I tweeted it now I would have used hashtags or tagged my friends that are in the pictures.
For the retweet assignment, I retweeted the video of my roommate’s puppy because it was my top tweet at the time. I included hashtags in the tweet as well as the link to his Instagram. The retweet didn’t do as well as the original but I liked experimenting with retweeting my own content.
Overall I have grown to like Twitter, in the beginning of the semester I was not a fan because I never really knew how to use it in a way that worked for me. I have learned how to fully utilize all of the tools and I feel comfortable tweeting. I learned what worked and what can be improved throughout the assignments and I now know how to make the most of the platform.
