Yesterday, Chick-fil-A broke the news that their company is no longer making donations to anti-LGBTQ+ organizations. According to CNN Business, Chick-Fil-A will no longer donate to “the Salvation Army and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA).” This news sparked buzz all over many social media platforms, especially on Twitter where #ChickfilA was trending. The announcement caused people to become extremely political while voicing their opinions on Twitter. The majority of tweets stood firmly against the business despite the change. Many stressed the damage that was caused due to past donations to the anti-LGBTQ+ orgs and that this cannot simply be overlooked or dismissed.
hot take: just because Chic-Fil-A has vowed to stop funneling money into anti-LGBTQ+ organizations, doesn't mean that they should be forgiven for the irreparable damage they've caused. it's still a no from this queer! #ChickFilA

I am happy #ChickFilA has stopped donating to anti-lgbtq causes – BUT – it isn’t enough to simply stop ‘lighting fires’. You need to actively repair damage by helping extinguish the ones you started. It’s a step in the right direction, but there’s still work be done.

Any "Christian" who thinks that God would turn away or look down on the LGBTQ+ community has zero idea of what it means to be a Christian. But don't worry. You can get your chicken elsewhere and leave #ChickFilA for those of us who have a heart.

Despite the abundance tweets criticizing the company for its past anti-LGBTQ+ funding, some of the tweets were extremely offensive to this community and its supporters. Most of these opposing tweets consisted of hateful, homophobic speech that people justified with their Christian beliefs.
The lgbt has destroyed the Christian religion in general. Yet you side with them. The same people who actively try to take God out of everything so that way we are a Godless country. You are helping them.
If you are for them we are against you

LBGT groups see bigotry and persecution where there is none. Christians believe and follow the teachings of the Bible. Those teachings say marriage is between a man and a woman. There is no hatred in those words. #ChickFilA

It is disappointing to realize that people continue to spread hateful messages targeting this community. This trending hashtag also highlights the importance of being an informed consumer. It is crucial to fully understand a company’s social views because your purchases can indirectly affect marginalized communities.
