Recently, it seems as though the whole world has been split over whether or not a top sheet is necessary. It all started when people started blaming millennials for ending the use of top sheets, which then lead to a very controversial debate.
.@HopkinsErin: THERE IS #TOPSHEET BEEF on the internet right now…
You know, the sheet between your fitted sheet and duvet, APPARENTLY MILLENIALS HAVE KILLED THIS OFF?!?!?! What kind of animal doesn't use a top sheet…🤔

Apparently, the use of a top sheet has people so divided that it lead one woman to a divorce!
I don't understand the top sheet debate, my bed is as follows:
Fitted sheet > me > flat sheet > soft blanket > comforter
And then a blanket folded at the end of my bed lol #toomuch #topsheet #mybed #StrangeReasonsToDivorce #sleeping #relatable

While others do not feel as strongly, they do agree that a top sheet isn’t all that necessary.
The #topsheet is the the most useless part of any bedding set.
Too cold to provide any real insulation, too hot for summer nights when you still kinda need some cover for any lingering cold air.
I guess it's another thing millennials are killing? Good. I though i was alone.

However, others have voiced their love for top sheets- both at home and at hotels.
I am all in on top sheets, at home and away. Hotels take note. #teamtopsheet #TopSheet https://t.co/CYAfuTJ4R2

The use of top sheets has also made people question whether or not they trust people who aren’t on the same side of the debate as them.
I don’t trust anyone who doesn’t use a top sheet. Come on now. #TopSheet

Some people feel using a top sheet is a better choice for sanitary reasons.
This #topsheet argument has gone too far!! YOUR TOP SHEET IS THE BUFFER BETWEEN YOU AND YOUR COMFORTER. So, unless you want to start washing your comforter even more than usual, not using a top sheet is completely counter-productive and you won’t convince me otherwise.

So, what side of the debate are you on? Are you team top sheet or team no top sheet?
Hi Mary,
I think this topic is so funny! I don’t use a top sheet on my bed, but my grandmother does and so do my older relatives. I never understood the point of a top sheet because maybe I’m a millennial and no millennials do. I think it’s silly to put an extra sheet on your bed. I like how you showed relevant tweets with different age ranges. I can tell by people’s profile photos when someone is older and someone is younger. I think the reason millennials stopped using top sheets is because they’re lazy. We like to do minimal effort. If that means no top sheet, then we won’t use one. I also liked that you variation and the issues of not having a top sheet could have. It could range from just frustration to people becoming so frustrated it results in a divorce! Interesting topic and good post!
Hi Mary!
I personally have been team top sheet ever since I was little. This was probably the result of my mother being the one to purchase my bedding. I never knew that this was such a controversial topic until reading all of the tweets you gathered. Personally, I think it is gross if a bed does not have a top sheet because you can clean sheets more frequently than your duvet. I will definitely start asking my friends whether or not they are team top sheet.
