For this assignment I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what to make for the content. Memes were too obvious, sure they are viral in nature, but I wanted to go into a different direction. Most of the other things that I saw that had gone viral were either a very cute animal, which i do not possess, or someone getting injured, which I wasn’t going to do.
So I decided one day after a long anxiety attack to just create whatever came to mind. Make it as weird as I could possibly make it. One thing I knew it had to do was at some point make people smile. It also had to have zero plot and make absolutely no sense whatsoever. When thinking about what is around me that could be interesting or viral in nature i thought back to this old buffalo head my sister made out of egg crate foam when we were in high school. Thats when it hit me. If I’m going to try to make something viral without actually having a subject or anything to go off of, then the content should make absolutely no sense. It should make you smile but at the same time make you confused to why you watched it.
I wanted to have fun with it. One thing that is consistent throughout most viral content (at least the stuff that doesn’t easily offend) is that fact that the people making it are having a lot of fun with it. The purpose of the video was to make no sense. The idea eventually turned into a small story and I ran with it. After the video was created I though about how its nonsense could be promoted. So I created an Instagram page for our buffalo businessman. My plan is to use the Instagram images to promote the video and the Pinterest card by funneling them through twitter posts.
Even though the video is an interesting attempt and has what I feel could be the stepping stones to the character going “viral” but the truth is that I have no idea if this type of randomness could take off. It could be a complete failure but thats ok. I always say that failure is good. It’s progress to something that eventually could take off and be that big idea.

The pin itself is essentially just a promotional card for the character and the hashtag. But I tried to have it make people wonder what it could be about. It’s almost like make shift brand mascot with no brand attached to it other than its own.
