Pretty scary right? It’s amazing what you can do with a People magazine cover and a new Snapchat filter. As the 2016 presidential election looms, morale can tend to get dragged down as the candidates harp on the negative issues America faces. However, as a fan of John Oliver and his satirical humor, his Donald Drumpf skit resonated with me. It ignited an idea to utilize this humor and my own political views to make a Twitter Webcard and promotional campaign through Twitter Ads, focused on distracting individuals from the gloomy outlook on America:
John Oliver’s ingenious skit on #DonaldDrumpf drove me to think, could we survive under him? https://t.co/0uSoKw9yUE

The objective of my campaign was to pass along my views on the current political climate, as well as the message connected along with it: can you realistically believe that America could survive being run by Donald Trump? While impressions may not be as valuable as engagement, I strived for at least 300 on my website card, along with the minimum of 30 engagements. I was very satisfied to see the results on my promotions via Twitter’s analytics and Imgur’s view counter:
At the conclusion of my promotion, I was surprised by how much engagement I received, when adding up the engagement from my campaign and imgur views it totaled 264 engagements. Not only did I break 30 engagements on my promoted content, I received 151 engagements from an organic tweet with my webcard on its own:
I found promoting my content on other networks to be a great funnel into my Webcard and lead to increased engagement. Also, I realized the importance of timing, as I received the most engagement right around midday and scheduled my tweets accordingly to take advantage of this information:
Not to mention, the fact that over the course of this campaign my Klout score rose from 22.4-28.96 in the span of a week, which was indicative of my campaign’s success. It appears as though the excitement surrounding the election and specifically Donald Trump was reflected in my campaign meeting the goals I established. While there was some negative feedback (obviously from Trump supporters), that was already anticipated and did not distract me from the point of this project. In total, this campaign allowed me to gain experience in running an ad campaign via twitter with original content and begin to understand the inner workings of all that the platform has to offer.
