Tear gassing children at the boarder is one of the most disgusting things I’ve seen, second only to locking kids in cages. #mexicoborder

Shooting rubber bullets and throwing tear gas won’t stop people LEGALLY seeking asylum. The US is corrupt like the rest of the world. My heart is with Mexico 🇲🇽❤️ #mexicoborder

Tear gas is a weapon. The United States of America have launched a weapon into another sovereign nation state. This shows complete disregard for Mexico’s territorial integrity and clearly violates international law (Article 2 of the UN Charter) #Trump #mexicoborder https://t.co/ptGeu9cFlQ

@realDonaldTrump, The immigrant crisis has a simple solution, Returning immigrants to their countries or stay in Mexico. There is no place for them in US. #Immigrants #Mexican border #mexicoborder #BorderLineShooting

I chose to look at the hashtag “#mexicoborder”, because I knew there would be a lot of controversy around the topic. What I mainly found is that a majority of the tweets were “negative” meaning that America’s response had been unwarranted. It was difficult to find “positive” responses to the migrant caravan until I searched a more polarized hashtag, “#migrantinvasion”. I found this particularly interesting because I hadn’t thought much before how different hashtags on the same topic would lead someone to form an opinion on an event. Because there was no “official” hashtag used for this event, there was polarization happening in both the tweet copy and also within the different hashtags.
