Ever thought a can of soda could unite both sides of a protest? Pepsi thought so. Pepsi and Kendall Jenner recently received a lot of pushback on their controversial ad called “Live For Now”. Pepsi’s main goal was to show unity amongst people but it backfired and unified people against the corporate giant instead. The ad shows Kendall Jenner modeling as she notices people walking in some kind of protest with signs that are vague and state no real issues. Towards the end, Kendall decides to ditch her glamorous modeling career to join the protest. She then walks up to a line of armed police officers and hands one a can of Pepsi, which unites both sides. The commercial ends in a huge cheer from the crowd.
People took to twitter in criticism of this ad and its insensitivity to what really goes on during protests.

Viewers questioned Pepsi’s motives and whether or not they really believe that a can of soda is the answer to creating peace and unity.
"Excuse me, minorities, I'm about to solve allll of your problems. With a Pepsi." #KendallJenner #pepsiad You can't make this *ish up.

If Pepsi was the answer, why hasn’t anyone tried it yet?
For the record, those are cops w/ riot gear. A famous white girl didn't come to save the day & a can of Pepsi didn't fix everything #PepsiAd pic.twitter.com/LElC0GPzkv

Although many have criticized this commercial’s insensitive ways of trying to sell products, there are also some that have no problem with it. Many are saying they believe that this commercial isn’t a big deal and that there’s nothing wrong with what the corporate giant did just to sell more soda.
I really don't understand whats the problem with the Pepsi ad. Stop being overly sensitive about everything #pepsiad #getoutofyourfeelings

Next time you grab a soda, think about the power you may/may not be holding in your hands.
