Starting August 28th, I had ten followers on Twitter and a Klout score of 43, mostly influenced by my other social media accounts. I had created my personal Twitter December 2012, and rarely used it. Although I rarely used my personal account, I had used Twitter in the past when managing business accounts so I understood how to use it, I just never found my voice on my personal account. With the use of engaging hashtags and posting more content through my social media class, I have been able to gain twenty seven more followers, a 270% growth, and significantly increase the impressions on my posts and visits to my Twitter account. I also created an Instagram, seperate to my personal account which has received thirty followers within five weeks. With the increase of posts on Twitter and Instagram, my Klout score has grown to 50 and has helped me analyze what social media sites I use the most: Twitter 13%, Instagram 68%, and Facebook 16%.

The first post I saw good engagement on was on my picture of Syracuse’s campus. On this post I received 393 impressions and 13 engagements. This post could have gotten more views with the use of more hashtags pertaining to Syracuse, but overall it did well and was a good post.

The next post that received significant engagement was my A/B testing. This was a technique I learned in class where you promote a hyperlink twice, between two days at the same time with a slight change. On the first post I did not see that much engagement, 233 impressions and 6 engagements.
Much needed when you remember you have school tomorrow 🙈 #NHsmc #school #cutedogs https://t.co/IOFdypTxXz

On the second I saw 864 impressions and 33 engagements, so this testing was very successful and will be something I continue to use in the future.
Still making me smile 😊 #NHsmc #smiling #cutedogs https://t.co/IOFdypTxXz

One of my tweets with the most engagement was a collage of pictures from when I hiked Montserrat in Spain. This tweet brought in 763 impressions, 38 total engagements with 10 likes and 5 retweets. I used the hashtags #Hiking and #optoutside to bring in an outdoorsy crowd who would be interested in the post.

The promotion of my personal Instagram on Twitter received 276 impressions with a total of 20 engagements. As my second collage of pictures (after the Spain tweet) I have found pictures to be very successful for me.

September Overview
All of the posts above were posted in September and along with my 15 other tweets that month I received a total of 1,220 profile visits, 5,233 impressions, 9 new followers, and three mentions. Compared to a few months before September, where there was nothing happening on my account, this is a tremendous improvement.

My #ICYMI post did well with 284 impressions and 22 total engagements, including engagement from the restaurant themselves. Not only did they retweet the picture, but they have also included me on their #FollowFriday almost every week since I posted this picture. This tweet shows the relationships people can have with brands through forms of social media.

I decided to try and tag another brand in a photo I took while hiking. This tweet earned 279 impressions with 11 engagements, including a like from the brand. This tweet also brought in a different smaller company who started a conversation with me about the picture.

After lots of tweets, our class decided to move to Instagram to perfect our posts between social media platforms. For my first post on insta, I decided to post about some activities I had been doing using hashtags that would bring in people who also enjoy these activities. I received 15 likes and one comment. I also posted the same picture on Twitter, with less hashtags, where it received 183 impressions and 4 engagements.

On Instagram I had never used a sticker in one of my pictures, so this was a new for me. Although the picture only received 6 likes, I think it was a nice use of the sticker and was shown in my class as an example of how to implement a sticker.

After a class, one of our assignments was to put a nice picture on Facebook. I decided on this picture which I put on both Facebook and Instagram. On Facebook it received close to 40 likes while on Instagram it received 7. With the picture on Instagram I could have used better hashtags to bring in a audience within the Syracuse area.
Woke up to snow!

Even though my class strayed from Twitter a bit, I decided to try and keep up the posts on Twitter and share a moment. I thought the video was adorable and that people would enjoy this moment. I received 1,306 impressions along with 6 engagements. The use of the hashtags brought in a large audience since they are such popular hashtags.

Reflection
Overall, I had a great time exploring and learning different techniques for Twitter and Instagram. Many tips from class helped me create posts that were very successful that ultimately grew my social media presence and voice. Some things I learned from my posts on these mediums were: to be strategic with my hashtags, know my audience / who would be interested in the specific post, to be aware of timing, and to be open to trying new techniques. Many of my posts with high impressions or engagements included pictures, so I will continue to post pictures while remembering all of the tips I learned these past months, never forgetting to use hashtags.
