Social media has changed my life in many ways, for sure.
I started to use social media when I was in fifth grade, in 2005. Before that, the way we social with people and the way we obtain information is very limited. At that time, I don’t feel like social is important, and most of my time was spending on my on things, like watching TV. Life was very simple back then.
There are some good side about the social media. For example, I can learn about information from all over the world, I can make more friends online, and I can also learn about them from their social media post. I feel more engaged with the world. Social media is a place where you can express your opinion without being in font of people.
After social media has become a major part of my life, the first thing I do when I wake up is checking on my phone, and the last thing I do before I fall asleep is also checking on my phone. During the day, social media apps are also filling my life. I get used to multitasking. When a notification pops up on my phone screen, I immediately stop what I was doing and reply to people. Maybe I am addicted to social media in some level.
Social media addiction is actually very common. Here is the statistics about that:

What do you guys think? Does social media affect your life?
Read this article “Do Social Media Change Our Behaviors?” for more details.
I think it would be naive to say social media doesn’t affect our lives. Whether or not we actively engage on it ourselves, we see how our friends, family and the media are influenced by what occurs on it (or what doesn’t); it’s sad but no matter how hard you try you can’t live in a bubble from social media. For me, I think a social media addiction occurs when you no longer see the distinction between real life and the facade that often is built on online. Social media ultimately needs to be taken with a grain of salt- you get out of it what you put into it but at the end of the day, it has the ability to shape our microcosm whether we realize it or not.
