Raf’s Top 10 Tweets

I made a Twitter account for this class. Before, I was intrigued by the mysterious culture but halted off joining because I was intimidated by the sheer size and popularity of it. Something about joining this huge, diverse community and starting from scratch, not knowing what the untold rules were was definitely a considerable barrier. That said, I’m glad I got the experience of being forced into Twitter, not only as a lurker but as a participant.

At the very beginning, my Klout score stayed in the 15 area. It stayed there, getting a few bumps every now and then. In March I got my first big jump from 17 to 27, and then again in April from 31 to 40, where I peaked.

I’m still far from an active user. With a grand total of 30 followers and averaging less than two tweets a week, I can’t say I’m much of a Twitter-er. But it’s still nice to think that its not something hard and it’s a tool I could use whenever I want.

Part of an assignment to look for social media outside of the Internet, I passed by this door with a note one it. It reminded me of how we leave notes for people, often strangers, to read on Twitter.

Who doesn’t like a good coffee in the morning? Especially in grad school. For this tweet I wanted to make a gif that represented how hard it is to wake up early on a Friday to get some schoolwork done.

This was the first time I tried tweeting at a brand and the first time a brand responded. Having had Twitter only for a few months it was a bit bizarre. But in a good way.

The Most Interesting Man in the World campaign was arguably one of the most important campaign of out time by virtue of its popularity and how universally liked alone. When news hit that the Dos Equis campaign was to come to an end I felt it my duty as an advertising student to comment on this historical event.

Another event of historical importance: Queen Elizabeth II’s Sweet 90 (is that a thing?). Many brands took to Twitter to celebrate along with the Queen.

Again, I wanted to capture how interesting the idea of flakes of frozen water falling from the sky and accumulating on the ground was to Puerto Ricans. I didn’t know that water froze around branches like that.

I think that this particular tweet was successful because I incorporated a lot of different elements into it. Media, a relevant hashtag and tree emojis harmony.

Apparently the Facebook reactions news was really big on Twitter. Just by using the hashtag at the right time I got more than twice the impressions that my second-best tweet got. Crazy.

  1. I have never seen that GIF before and if that is how you make coffee every morning I don’t know how you do it, I would be a zombie and probably set the house on fire.
