Sassy Fashion Cat Meme Goes ‘Viral’

Creating engaging, share-worthy content on the internet is not an easy task.  With billions of micro-content online, getting noticed can be difficult.  But I managed to create a meme that gained views and resonated with online users.

Sassy Fashion Cat

Objectives

I created a carefully crafted social media marketing plan to reach my goal of at least 500 views on Imgur and go’viral’, with the hopes of gaining as many views as possible.  I wanted to create a piece of content that my online audience would relate to, and in turn share it out.  This act of viewing and sharing was the foundation for reaching my goal.

Twitter Webcard

My campaign centered around promoting my meme primarily on twitter via a twitter webcard.  The webcard serves to tease my meme by showing a portion of the image, while leaving out the text.  This makes viewers more likely to click on the webcard which imbeds a link to my Imgur.  When a user clicks to see the full image, they are sent to see the meme on Imgur, generating more views.

Twitter Ad Spend and Engagement

I spent a total of $3.00 over the course of 4 days to promote my Twitter webcard.  Due to technical trouble with my credit card, the Ad spend got cut short and I was not able to spend the full $5.00.  However this didn’t impact my goal of reaching at least 500 views, and I still noticed a considerable amount of engagement.

I gained 572 impressions with my ad buy, and had 960 organic impressions over the course of my campaign.  I noticed a dramatic spike in engagement on April 7th, with 398 organic impressions and 304 promoted impressions.  This day was the most successful day of my campaign.  This could possibly have been due to the time of day I posted my tweet, which was in the evening on a Friday night.

Campaign Analysis

Throughout the course of my one week marketing plan I reached a grand total of 552 views on Imgur.  I tweeted a total of 4 times throughout the week.  My first tweet went out on April 3rd in the morning with 110 impressions and 11 engagements.  I tweeted again on April 6th in the afternoon and noticed a bit of a dip with only 88 impressions and 3 engagements.  My last 2 tweets went out on April 7th and 9th both around the evening time.  Those received 120 impressions and 11 engagements and 111 impressions and 1 engagement respectively.

I noticed that my tweets with a lighter amount of copy and more hashtags generated a greater number of both impressions and engagements.  I also found that my tweet posted in the morning actually did significantly better in gaining traction.  Next time I run a social media marketing plan I hope to expand into other social platforms, and run a more extensive ad buy.
