So you want your meme to go viral? Learn from my Social Media Marketing plan!

Creating a meme and a social media marketing plan was not only fun, but a great learning experience. Here’s a summary of my campaign as well as some takeaways:

First, going into the campaign I created a list of objectives (below) I wished to accomplish during my campaign. I tweeted A LOT about my meme (maybe too many times), and was able to get a combined 27 favorites 3 retweets, and 845 views on Imgur. I was shocked I was able to get so many favorites on my tweets about my meme, as well as getting so many views on Imgur (also below)! Additionally, I received 2 mentions about my meme. Tweeting the link out to meme on different days at different times helped to increase the exposure of my meme, which resulted in more favorites on my tweets and more clicks to view the meme. I also used hashtags in the majority of my tweets promoting my meme in an effort to increase the number of impressions.

Objective(s) (measurable)

· Have at least 10 favorites, 3 retweets and 500 views,

· In addition, there will be at least 2 mentions about the meme.

FUNNY DOG MEME

Prior to this class, I never used Twitter ads so it was neat to create to my own Twitter ad for this campaign. Below is my Twitter Webcard tweet and a screenshot of my Twitter Ads Engagement and spend. It was tricky at first to create the Webcard aspect on Twitter ads, but I was able to quickly figure it out. I targeted my tweet to people ages 18-24 that love animals/dogs. I wanted to target people who are interested in pop culture because I felt that they would resonate with my meme as well. I carefully cropped the photo that was shown in my ad so that the text was not visible so people were more likely to click on the link to view my full meme. Additionally, I used hashtags in my tweet to increase the visibility.

I was surprised that I was able to have 1,582 impressions on my tweet even though I only spent $5.00. However, I only had 27 link clicks despite having a ‘call to action’  so I do wish that number was a bit higher.

Twitter Ads and Engagement/Spend

Overall, I believe my campaign was a success! Not only did I meet every objective that I had aimed to meet beforehand, but I was also able to have 845 views on my meme, which is 345 more views than I had wanted to meet. I tweeted out the link to my meme many times over the past week, and all of the tweets received high impression numbers which I also believe helped increase the number of views on my meme.

I would say the only thing that didn’t work as well as I had hoped was the number of link clicks on my Twitter Webcard tweet. I had hoped to receive more clicks, especially since I had over a thousand impressions. I think next time I will create a better call to action so that people are more inclined to click on the Imgur link. I am walking away from this experience knowing how to make a creative meme as well as how to run a Twitter ad campaign!
