I use social media a lot. Some people might even say that I use it too often. But the number one reason why I use social media is to stay connected, and I don’t see that as a negative thing.
Social media keeps me up to date with what’s going on, not only in the lives of my friends and family, but also in the world as a whole. In my busy, fast-paced life I rarely find time to sit down and watch the news or read full-length news articles. Instead, I use Twitter to quickly catch up on current events and news. According to The American Press Institute, 44% of Americans report to have gathered their news from social media.
CNN is a great news source for updates on politics and international news. Just by reading their tweet I can gain insight into what the article link is about, and decide if I want to take the time to read it in-depth.

I also use social media to connect professionally. LinkedIn is a great social networking platform to connect with colleagues and potential employers. Additionally, Twitter accounts such as AdAge help me stay up to date on what’s going on in my desired profession, advertising.

Without social media I would feel less connected to my friends and family, as well as to the world around me.
