Gun legislation seems to be a major topic after every mass shooting in the United States. The conversation resurfaced after the Las Vegas and Texas attacks earlier this fall.
The hashtag #GunControlNow started trending on Twitter. Many advocates for stronger gun control legislation used it to contribute their thoughts to the conversation. The hashtag seems appropriate for that sort of conversation, as it inherently is pro gun-control.
The US has had over 300 mass shootings this year. Other countries don't have this problem. Enough is enough. #GunControlNow pic.twitter.com/lIBao9SSpr

In the United States, you are far more likely to be killed by a maniac with a gun than by a terrorist, a refugee, or an immigrant. We don’t need a wall or a travel ban. What we need is #GunControlNow. #gunsense pic.twitter.com/9NCocKquh8

I do not own a firearm because I am not an insecure, immature, paranoid, brainwashed, conspiracy theorist, lemming, intolerant, low-functioning gun-bunny who secretly wants to feel the raw thrill of killing another human being. #FlameMeNow #GunControlNow

Other people used the hashtag to join in on the conversation in a joking manner, without really delving into specifics.

Still, there’s a large contingent of people who don’t believe in the need for stricter gun control. Even though the hashtag seems like its centered around that belief, those who disagreed used it to counter the messages of the other side.
Those tweeting about #GunControlNow do you honestly think someone who murders a church full of people gives a flying F about gun laws?

Both of these tweets don’t agree with the notion of gun control, but use the hashtag to express their dissenting opinion to those who agree with it.
