Tax Day in the United States, April 17th for 2018, was a day that caused a storm on Twitter. Starting #TaxDay United States citizens, as well as Government leaders, were speaking their mind about the recent tax initiatives put in place by President Donald Trump. Many tweets were also referencing #GOPTaxScam, in which users are stating that under the tax incentive CEO’s and stockholders are getting richer, while the average worker is suffering. This hashtag was ultimately used by Twitter users who are speaking out against the Trump Tax initiative and the choices of the Federal Government.
You will want to keep this in mind as you hear the @HouseGOP spin the #GOPTaxScam today. #TaxDay https://t.co/ZrY0uP3Hhh

We have a rigged tax code that has essentially legalized tax dodging for large corporations. It's time to repeal the Trump tax breaks for the wealthy and large corporations and rebuild the disappearing middle class. #TaxDay

It’s #TaxDay – which means my Republican colleagues will be talking up the #GOPTaxScam until they are blue in the face. Just remember: this law will ultimately raise taxes on 86 million middle class families & gives massive tax breaks to wealthy corporate shareholders.

Happy #TaxDay! And reminder that Republicans voted to give themselves and their rich friends huge tax breaks that will force deep cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security. Let's remember that in November. pic.twitter.com/ogAbgZkaLI

Question: Who is benefiting from the #GOPTaxScam on #TaxDay?
Answer: The rich & well connected. https://t.co/720aqEx1UG— Martin Heinrich (@MartinHeinrich) April 17, 2018
It’s #TaxDay and unless you’re among the wealthiest, the #GOPTaxScam is not helping you. If your company had its taxes lowered and is now profiting, that shouldn’t just benefit them, but also YOU. #WheresYourRaise

This #TaxDay, let’s not forget that the #GOPTaxScam put billionaires and corporations over hardworking families.

#TaxDay is used by American citizens to express their dislike for the Federal Government’s tax initiative, though some Republican political figures can be seen using the hashtag as well. Many tweets pushed out by Republican legislative leaders are promoting a “less complicated system” for the average American, using somewhat of a marketing hook to have American citizens engage with or gain interest in the new tax code.
Like @POTUS said yesterday, this #TaxDay is the LAST TIME Americans will fill out that long, complicated, horrible return. Next year will be simple, working Americans will keep more of their money & the Trump tax cuts will continue to make a REAL difference for everyday families.

This #TaxDay is the last time you will have to file your taxes under the old complicated system. Next year, your taxes will be lower and easier to file. pic.twitter.com/6MSHFiBUUx

Today is the last #TaxDay with our old tax system. Under the new code, American families will see:
✅ An average tax cut of $2059
✅ Lower tax rates
✅ Nearly doubled standard deduction
✅ Doubled child tax credithttps://t.co/r07vieDr6l— Paul Ryan (@SpeakerRyan) April 17, 2018
Here are four ways the new tax code will be better than the old one:
1⃣ Lowers rates for all Americans
2⃣ Nearly doubles the standard deduction
3⃣ Doubles Child Tax Credit to $2,000
4⃣ Provides relief from Obamacare's unfair and ineffective individual mandate#TaxDay pic.twitter.com/ABmprwcI1q— Rep. Lloyd Smucker (@RepSmucker) April 17, 2018
#TaxDay was used by Republican political figures to spread awareness about the positive effects of the new tax initiative, though also used to give a voice to those who feel they are suffering while others are benefitting.
