Pineapple on pizza is a long standing controversy among the twitter community. This conversation became a trending topic last January when the inventor of Hawaiian pizza died at the age of 83. The behind behind the controversy is Sam Panopoulous. The pizza topping began as a simple experiment to see if costumer’s enjoyed his concoction. Since his invention, the conversation of whether or not pineapple belongs on pizza has become a heated debate. Through my analysis of the hashtag, #pineappleonpizza, I discovered that the conversation is obviously black and white; people either love it or hate it. Furthermore, people with opposing opinions do not hold back from arguing with someone of a different perspective. People who are against pineapple on pizza believe those who enjoy it are “weird”, “on the dark side”, and often times, “twisted”. In the tweets I have embedded, it is clear of the obviously sides on this controversy. People who are pro pineapple on pizza are more keen to share their opinion on twitter, no matter what backlash they may receive. So, are you a supporter or not?

Pineapple is a FRUIT, sweet and sour and full of vitamine C….. The same is for tomatoes, and still tomato sauce goes on top of pizzas and pasta and nobody complains about it. #pineappleonpizza perhaps
