Twitter Conversation: #BerkeleyProtests

In recent news, there was a gathering of Trump supporters in Berkeley, California for a ‘Patriot Day.’ Counter protesters showed up shortly after word of the gathering and police were stationed and ready for whatever could happen. Before turning violent, counter protesters were sending encouraging messages and spreading positivity.

Not everyone was in support of the positivity that the counter protesters were preaching and some even encouraged violence.

The event quickly took a turn for the worse when protesters began to aggravate one another and police stepped in. Several people were injured after the crowd began to attack one another. Police intervened with pepper spray, tear gas bombs, and fences to keep the crowds from approaching one another but it didn’t diffuse the situation.

People took to Twitter and expressed their disapproval of the protesters’ actions. It was a very tense situation and was being compared to a similar event that also occurred in Berkeley earlier in February. At that event, protesters were shown wearing masks that a lot of people thought was counter productive of the message they were trying to send.

Since Trump’s election into office there have been more reported acts of violence and incidents. Who is to say where our future is heading?
