On November 11 the country celebrated the holiday of Veteran’s Day. While most Americans took time to show their respect on social media, there were some who took the opportunity to protest President Trump including at a parade in New York City. All of these tweets included #VeteransDay even though they all had such different takes on the holiday.
The protestors took to Twitter to express their disapproval of the president and explain why it was a perfect day to protest.
To those saying we shouldn’t protest Trump today: I wholeheartedly disagree. There has been no president in our history who has been more disrespectful to our veterans than Trump so protesting him (and impeaching him) IS honoring our veterans. #VeteransDay 🇺🇸

What #VeteransDay means to me:
My brother earned:
2 Purple Hearts
2 Silver Stars
4 Bronze Stars and …GAVE HIS LIFE fighting so people can vote and protest. pic.twitter.com/aQ2fLhJsKx

"Patriotism means to stand by the country. It does not mean to stand by president or any other public official." – Pres. Theodore Roosevelt
Fascism on the other hand, supports authoritarianism w/ violence & bloodshed; rejects dissent, freedom of speech & protest.#VeteransDay pic.twitter.com/69apybQPz8

Others- specifically Trump, were not happy about the protest and felt that the holiday should be a day to celebrate and thank the troops. Many tweets including the hashtag did not mention the protest at all and used it just to celebrate the troops in general or specific loved ones.
It’s disgusting how a handful of do nothing Dems want to protest my #VeteransDay speech. They should honor heroes like me. #QAnon can confirm I fought the VD as the Vietnam war is still remembered. https://t.co/XhHpviNCbW
