A week ago, I started a Viral Content Challenge, which was to create a meme that can go viral on social media. Obviously, it didn’t go viral, and no enough meet my 500 views goal. Here is how my plan fails to meet my goal.
The meme is about how college students feel about the exam in their school life. It uses the image of Selena Gomez, who is a popular American actress and singer. Most importantly, she is the most followed person on Instagram. She also attracted many young fans who are still in school. In my plan, this meme can engage with the students, my primary audience, and hopefully them find themselves connected with the meme.
At first, I thought that people might check out their Twitter more often during the night, so I post this at Monday night and spend $5 to promote it.
Just a reminder: final exam is in about two weeks. #NHsmc #finals #summerhttps://t.co/Ulnc8gmFaE

Like that. I only got 25 clicks in this post. Maybe the hashtag I used was not good, and people at night don’t really check on social media that often as I expect. However, my other post actually gain more people to view my meme and little more enagement. The one below, I used a trending hashtag #BelieveinYOUnicorns, which helps to gain more impression.

I got 68 clicks for this one. In my case, the hashtag works very well to spread my content. Also, I post this on Sunday night, around the same time as the first post. This show that people are more likely to be on social media on a weekend night than a weekday night.
So, the total views for my meme is 390, which is no a lot. Next time, I will try to put my content more often on weekend, which works better in my case.
