The gun debate is becoming increasingly fierce after a series of mass shootings (2016 Orlando nightclub shooting, 2017 Las Vegas shooting, etc.). There is also a debate about US firearms regulation on Twitter with the hashtag #guncontrol.
Gun control advocates support gun control legislation. They focus on the security threat that relates to loose gun laws; believe that firearms are the deadliest kind of weapon; and express their worries over families’ and friends’ safety, and via emotional comments on gunshot survivors’ news stories. Regarding the influence of gun control on the society, they assert that strict gun laws will diminish the social hostility and unsafety caused by gun violence. Here are some of their opinions:
Sticks & stones may break our bones, but bullets will DEFINITELY FN KILL US…#guncontrol

I get scared when I don’t hear from my friends or if they are running late after work, what if they were killed today? This is 16 years later and I’m still terrified I will have my best friends blood on my hands again someday. You are choosing guns over their lives. #GunControl

The Second Amendment defenders believe in individual citizens’ rights to to buy, own and carry guns. They think that the severity of gun violence has been exaggerated. They claim that people have the need for self-defense using firearms, and that policymakers often ignore the minorities’ need to defend themselves. They believe that gun control only works with law abiding people and will not be able to reduce gun violence. Using hypothetical reasoning, some connect gun control with authoritarianism. Here are some of their opinions:
Gun control isn’t going to fix the issue. In London alone we have had 48 killings over the last three months. FIVE due to gun crime & 43 due to knife & vehicle attack’s. I keep seeing #changeisneeded & #guncontrol sound bites… this isn’t the answer the problem is much deeper!

Let's just be honest.
The end result of #GunControl is that the bad guys will have all the guns they want, and the good guys will have none. pic.twitter.com/ndPh5AgZq1
