Objectives: For this Viral Content Meme Challenge I had three different objectives. The objectives were to have at least four of my Twitter followers retweet my meme, gain at least 10 new followers from the promotion of my meme, and lastly to gain at least 500 views on my Imgur meme.
Imgur Meme:
Twitter Webcard:

Campaign Analysis:
Overall I think that my Viral Content Challenge was successful. Although I only wound up achieving one of my objectives it’s exciting to see that I did surpass 500 views. When I first posted my meme on Sunday, March 31, I wound up receiving almost 400 views right away, however, the amount of views I continued to recieve did not increase at the same rate. I then used various tactics to promote my meme including texting the link to my friends and peers, sharing my Imgur link on Twitter, and running a Twitter Ad Campaign.
What worked:
- Direct messaging the link to my friends, because I trusted they would open the link upon my request.
- Using the tags on Imgur. I used the tags: college life, oitnb, funny, university problems, and iwokeupat8amthismorning. These tags allowed me to see what would engage the Imgur community, since each tag shows the amount of posts associated with that tag.
- Twitter Ads. I received 783 impressions from my promoted tweet, which subsequently led to an increase in link clicks.
What didn’t work:
- My organic Twitter reach. Due to my low follower count, my non-promoted Tweets fell short in organic reach.
- Hashtag’s on Twitter. I used trending hashtags on Twitter, but looking back at the campaign in retrospect I could have been more strategic in picking hashtag’s I know my audience engages with.
I was really impressed with the number of views I received, since I initially thought 500 would be a steep goal. I would have never thought to use Twitter Ads and Imgur’s community to promote a meme prior to this class. I am so glad I learned these skills since these platforms were critical to my success for this challenge.
