After spending a summer in Los Angeles as a fashion intern, I realized something important about the way I used my social media platforms.
To me, social media has become a digital scrapbook that is a part of my fashion identity. Â As a lover of fashion, I have aimed to make my Instagram identity one that is very fashion forward. Many of my posts showcase my outfit choices of the day or candid/ artistic photos in my outfits of choice. I started doing this during my time in LA where I would make sure that I would catch a photo whenever I could of my “ootd” to post on my profile. Without even realizing, it completely changed the way people saw me as a style setter, not only on social media, but in real life. It occurred to me that I soon was becoming a fashion inspiration to my followers, that consist of family, friends and acquaintances.
Social media has contributed to the way I choose to express myself. It serves as a way to promote myself in that media space in an area of life that I am incredibly passionate about. The use of media platforms offers a way for people to see us in different ways on screen and in reality. Although the identities from reality to virtual reality may seem to have a divide, I have come to find that they can certainly merge to create the self that people see in your everyday life.
