Background
For my viral video challenge, I produced a 1:20 video titled “Are These Shows Really Overrated?” I interviewed 8 people to get their thoughts on both the most overrated and underrated shows, and used their responses about the overrated shows for this video. The inspiration for this came from a BuzzFeed Quiz/Poll in which users could vote if shows were under or overrated. Instead of asking the people about specific shows, I left it up to them to tell what they thought are the most overrated.
TV is something to which everybody can relate. Therefore, I am hoping the opening title “Do You Agree With These Opinions on Overrated TV Shows?” will make a wide variety of people want to watch it to see if their opinions match with those of the interviewees. It follows the frame “How popular are your opinions about XX.” The range of responses I received from my interviewees allows for a broad audience to react to them and hopefully feel strongly enough to pass it on, argue with the responses (playfully) and give it engagement. Also, at the end the graphic reads “What do you think?” in an effort to engage with viewers. I could see teenagers, college students and adults all relating to the responses, whether they agree or disagree with them.

Analysis
I believe my marketing plan was well-detailed and helped a lot in the execution of sharing this video across Facebook and Twitter. I reached my goal for the number of views for the video, but it did not receive any shares. Upon reading the title, people probably wanted to see what the interviewees had to say about overrated TV shows. People commented on it expressing their opinions on the answers in the video, and I believe it did get people talking. However, I don’t think the video was compelling enough for viewers to share it. This is what did not work in the plan. Although I tried to make it interactive by adding a call to action at the end of the video and using the posts to ask people to engage more, it was not received well. I’m happy with the views, but the number of shares could be improved if I made more interactive posts. Overall, I think people were entertained while watching it. This video has a long shelf-life. Nothing about it is timely, which means it can live forever. Some of the shows mentioned are new and trending now, such as Stranger Things, but others have been around for a long time like Grey’s Anatomy. Therefore, with a better marketing plan, it could be revived in the future.
