NHBuzzFeed Viral Video Content Challenge Review

By: A.J. Gersh

Going into this project, I was confident about aiming my viral video at a very specific audience. College students, when living in dorms, primarily eat off of a meal plan. However, when those allotted amount of swipes have been used, ramen is the easiest option on a college budget. Thus, I created a video that bounced off of the “college kid” identity and took advantage of the buzz surrounding that group…one that has a huge on-line viral presence.

My initial goal for this project was to capitalize on the “relatability,” identity and culture around college students and ramen noodles and get this video to go viral. In saying viral, I was shooting to get promoted by BuzzFeed BFF or BuzzFeed Food and accumulate over 5,000 views. Unfortunately, I was unable to get promoted by BuzzFeed, but found some individual success on my Facebook page.

After posting, my video accumulated 146 views, ten likes and two comments (One of which, was my mom).

I believe that the Budweiser candle worked, as that particular prop was geared to the appeal of male, college boys. My other comment was from a friend in that demographic… “10/10.”

It could have been a lot shorter, though, in my opinion. If not shorter, at least more concisely shot.

In conclusion, though, I do believe my viral video campaign has been successful. Hopefully BuzzFeed BFF, Food or Tasty might check it out eventually, too.
