Viral Content Challenge

Objectives

For my viral meme campaign, I wanted to reference something that would be relatable to college students and young adults who might be using Imgur and other social media platforms to find memes and laugh. There’s nothing more relatable than when you give a presentation in front of your class, didn’t exactly take the time to prepare for questions, and then someone raises their hand. It’s a dreaded feeling for most students. The meme that I used is called the Puppet Monkey meme, and is often used to express surprise or shock. In this case, I used the image to express fear, or that “uh oh” feeling. My measurable objectives were as follows:

  • Reach 300 views on Imgur
  • Receive at least 10 comments on the post

View post on imgur.com

Analysis

As seen by my embedded meme, I surpassed my view number objective by many views, and reached 1,147. However, I did not reach my objective of 10 comments. I think in order to generate more comments, I should have shared the post within my social circle and asked others to comment. In order to generate more views on my meme, I found that asking people to “up arrow” the meme on Imgur would generate more views and comments because the image would receive more Imgur “points”. I also found that when I posted the meme on Imgur, within a day I had received more than 500 views without doing anything. This made me realize that if we create content that people find funny and relatable, some of the campaign work is done for us, and then whatever we can do to further share the meme, we should. I also found that sharing my meme on Twitter and Instagram worked more than Facebook. I think this had to do with the age of the audience on each platform. Overall, I would deem my campaign a success because of the number of views I received.

Final Engagement Number:
