The Stanley Cup playoffs have officially begun! The New York Rangers face the Pittsburg Penguins during the first round of the playoffs. However, after the New York Rangers defeated the Penguins during Game 2 of the series on April 16th, there were several controversial thoughts about Derick Brassard’s goal. Rangers winger, Brassard, broke in for a go-ahead goal during the second period, which gave the Rangers a 2-1 lead. The Penguins coach challenged the goal on the basis that Brassard was offsides. For a player to be offsides, both skates of the player have to be completely over the leading edge of the blue line involved in the play. After reviewing the play, the goal was upheld. Although the referees have many camera angles to work with, some fans believed Brassard was offsides, while others believed he was on sides.

This controversial goal by Derick Brassard was allowed to stand. Did @NHL make the right call? #StanleyCup #NYRvsPIT https://t.co/yiUYZhaY06

Stop with blaming referees. Blame Maatta for the misplay. And blame the power play for squandering chances. #NYRvsPIT #WakeUpPens

So much made of Brassard's skate. Irrelevant. Only question was did he have control, if so, he can precede puck into zone. #NYRvsPIT

They are ruining this sport. #NYRvsPIT

That was very close but I agree the goal should stand. They got it right. Much closer than last night's offside play #NYRvsPIT #nhlplayoffs
