La Creme de la Creme

At the beginning of this course, I decided to create a new Twitter account in order to start fresh and feel comfortable tweeting in a more academic context. I started out with three followers and am now up to 26 followers, which is an increase of about 766%. While that is not a huge number, I have found that tagging influencers and using hashtags usually results in a few follows. I have also found that those somewhat random followers do not stick around once they see that I am tweeting about things unrelated to that particular influencer or topic. I tend to get the least engagement on video tweets or tweets relating to a very specific thing that most people just do not care about.

My Klout score in the beginning was 0, and is now 10 which is a 1000% increase from my starting point.

My Top Ten Tweets with #NHsmc:

1.

Engagements: 38. My top tweet was a periscope video from the class challenge that was retweeted by one of my classmates since I used the class hashtag along with #live to draw in a different audience. I filmed the video on the Periscope app then shared it on Twitter in order to drive engagement to the tweet and also the class Periscope.

2.

Engagements: 28. Combining media with hashtags and tagging the show resulted in the second-highest number of engagements. I took a selfie on Halloween and used the picture to engage with fellow Game of Thrones fans.

3.

Engagements: 28. I used a funny and relevant gif and also used a relevant hashtag to promote my first blog post about social media.

4.

Engagements: 26. Quality media has definitely been a trend in receiving high engagement numbers and I used the #oldschool to draw in more engagement. This is a looped video using one of the many video creation features on twitter.

5.

Engagements: 24. Friends is such a popular show even with millennials, so if someone is a true fan I figured they would enjoy my reference and toss me a favorite. I used a hashtag because the show does not have an official Twitter page and the tweet was too long to tag any of the actors.

6.

Engagements: 22. I embedded a Vine into a tweet along with the #monday in the text to show the connection between the tweet and the Vine.

7.

Engagements: 22. This tweet uses a gif along with two trending hashtags in October to join in the conversation about Starbucks and its famous holiday drinks.

8.

Engagements: 19. I made a periscope video with a member of the men’s lacrosse team and mentioned their twitter page in hopes of gaining more of an audience.

9.

Engagements: 13. Again, this tweet has rich media that encourages more engagement, and I did an NGRAM of major makeup brands since that is one topic I have been tweeting about all semester long and I know at least a few of my new followers will relate.

10.

Engagements: 9. I was really excited to watch Christmas movies after Halloween so I wanted to see if anyone else agreed with me. I tagged Lifetime since they are notorious for their Christmas movies.

Overall, I experienced the most success using rich media, which comes as no surprise. For many of my tweets I attempted to use at least an emoji, but more often I had a gif or video in order to engage viewers.
