The Semester Round-Up: Top Tweets, Influence and Engagements

Part 1: Influence

Followers-8/29: 19, 11/20: 93

Overall I would consider this increase in followers a success. Over the course of this semester I learned a lot about how to brand myself on social media and how to maintain a following with engaging tweets and personal content.

What worked for me was the ability to use hashtags and to draw in an audience that is wider than just the people here at Syracuse. I made the attempt to look at the profiles of people who followed me and if their profile appealed to me I would at least like or retweet some of their content.

However, my number of followers fluctuated frequently throughout the course of the semester. Most times I would gain a few followers and then lose a few. I think I could have done a better job of consistently engaging with my new followers, which I did not do as much as I could have.

Part 2: Top Tweets/Engagements

This Twitter assignment was part of the AB testing method that we discussed in class. I found that having a question and quote tweeting a story that went along with the topic was a great way to receive engagement. I even a like from a major fashion influencer which was a huge win. 22 engagements

I took full advantage of the trending topic of Fetty Wap not showing for this years Juice Jam concert back in September. I tried to use a little humor using a visual of burnt cookies I had baked that day as well as tagging @fettywap himself to make the tweet more visible. There were a lot of tweets being generated that day among the Syracuse University student body so it was important for me to make a tweet that would stand out among the rest. 57 engagements

I was really happy with the engagements on this tweet. I had fun with this twitter assignment and playing around with the different features of twitter video. This tweet got 60 engagements which was quite good for me at the time. I think this works because of its relatibility as well as the witty and funny personal video attached. It’s is engaging and speaks to students who could relate to midterm stress.

This was a huge jump for me with a total of 423 engagements.ย This assignment we had to pick a trending hashtag create content for it and I chose to pick something that was personal to me and something I had fun adding my personality to it. However, I did not expect to get the amount of likes, retweets and engagements on this assignment. I think adding the GIF was the sole reason for this success. Everyone knows this legendary video and adding a visual brought a lot of connection to this tweet.

At this point in the semester I feel like I started to understand needed to be done to get engagements on Twitter. By tagging @teenybiscuit and @jmgrygiel, who have great followings, I was able to get a good engagement rate of 157. Adding the picture brought a great visual to the tweet which I am sure people clicked on to see. I even got a follow from @teenybiscuit!

This selfie tweet assignment received 42 engagements.ย Using the “#selfie” brought attention to the tweet as well as the color and SU affiliation. Also, original content always gets a decent amount of engagements because usually want to view the visual.

This was one of my biggest wins this semester. I used my passion for body diversity in the fashion industry to create this tweet that received 42 engagements.ย But my biggest surprise came when @theashleygraham liked my tweet! I had no intention of her noticing the tweet but was so incredibly happy when she did. I think I used a good amount of hashtags to spread this tweet out and it was perfect for a #ThursdayThoughts.

In this tweet, I attempted to engage the Syracuse University community. Fall is an enjoyable time here on campus and the beauty of fall looks great here at SU. With 22 engagements, this tweet worked because of the visual and tagging @SyracuseU which definitely brought some attention to the tweet.

This tweet was part of the viral content challenge. I wanted to do something fun with my image so I tried to put pictures together to play off of a part of the show that is comical to fans of the show. I used several hashtags that work also tagging two of the stars of the show in the tweet. #TBT is also a major hashtag so using that helped with receiving engagements. 24 engagements

This was a fun assignment and great for getting good engagements among students. Our group picked a topic we thought would be the most relatable for students here at SU. Using great emojis and tagging @NewhouseSU I think contributed to this tweet receiving 47 engagements.
