It’s no secret that social media is an incredible resource that millions of people have access to (and if it is a secret then you need to remove yourself from the rock under which you are hiding). Platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn are all used to create connections, establish and maintain relationships and friendships, stay up to speed on current events, the list can go on and on.
I love social media as much as the next person, but one thing I have noticed about social media is that not everything is what it seems. The images one may portray over social media are not always accurate depictions of one’s real life.
Such a great weekend

How can we be so sure that my friend Connor had “such a great weekend?” And why does he feel the need to post about it? Social media has changed me because it has opened my eyes to the possibility that one’s image and social media presence shows very about what someone may be like in real life. As social media grows, so does the need to constantly impress everyone on multiple platforms. Suddenly one’s image on Instagram has become more important than one’s image in the real world, and that, to me, is scary. Social media has changed me for the better, undoubtably, but I am now more hesitant to trust what I see and believe that what I’m seeing is completely honest and true.
