This past election has put Donald Trump and the catchphrase #MakeAmericaGreatAgain (#MAGA) into the spotlight. For some, this catchphrase is a sign of pride and patriotism, for others a sign of loathing, hatred, and racism. As you can see in the following tweets from Trump supporters, many are here for our new president’s leadership.
Why the media ignored @POTUS trip to Asia. #MakeAmericaGreatAgain
President @realDonaldTrump achieved more in 1 week abroad than Obama did in 8 years. American strength is being restored! #MakeAmericaGreatAgain

As you can see, most tweets under this hashtag are positive and support the notion that this new political revolution is #MAGA. This next tweet is an example of the hashtag used in a negative way. In this clip, you can see a white male mistreating another man on the subway because of his race. There is a belief as shown in this tweet that in fact #MAGA has not brought greatness, but has caused Americans to be more openly racists and prejudice. This is why some people have begun to use this hashtag in a sarcastic manner to shed light on the negativity in today’s political climate.
