CARDI B DID THAT

Very few things have been as highly anticipated as Cardi B’s debut album, Invasion of Privacy.

Bodak Yellow, her single that dethroned Taylor Swift teased the Bardi Gang but expanded her brand exponentially – the perfect combination. Since then, she’s released Bartier Cardi, Drip Drip and has been featured on high charting tracks including “No Limit” by G-Eazy and “Finesse (Remix)” By Bruno Mars.

Cardi B had already debunked the idea that her career would be short lived so on April 6th, she completely obliterated the sentiment. The fans are here for it.

Not only were Cardi’s fans shooting her through but celebrity A-listers like Diddy, Erykah Badu and Missy Elliott showed up as well.

Not surprisingly, with the love came some hate.

And while some people just voiced their disappointment, others were very articulate about why the album missed the mark.

Regardless, the numbers don’t lie. Not only is Cardi’s album projected to hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 but the artist is among the Top 10 Billboard artists and is the Top Female of Billboard’s Social 50.

  1. Cardi B nearly broke Twitter when she released this album–it was everywhere. Your post flowed so well and definitely summed up the mixed reviews that I was seeing. Love her or hate her you have to applaud her spirit and drive. Thanks for sharing!

  2. Hi Eveny,

I love that you chose to write about Cardi B. She has completely dominated the media ever since Bodak Yellow was released. I’ve listened to a couple songs on her album, but don’t feel strongly towards either side of this argument yet. I guess I’ll just have to listen a few more times!

  3. I really liked the way your post read like a Buzzfeed-esque type listicle. It was smooth reading and I like the choice of embeds. I think this could be published on any news or entertainment website as-is because of all the unique links and wide range of media. This definitely made me want to listen to her whole album. I may recommend not showing your opinion too much in the text you wrote accompanying your media, just so the audience can make their decision about the album themselves! Great work!

    1. Hi Katelyn, I will certainly be mindful of including my personal opinion too much in future blogs. Also, it’s cool to hear that you can see my piece fitting into established brands. I’ve never really considered that. Thanks for your feedback and suggestion.

  4. I totally get why people love Cardi B. She’s absolutely insane and does not care what other people think about her which is inspiring, but it actually can be pretty annoying. I feel like every time she talks, it really only has to do with her shirking off the haters and making weird sounds. HOWEVER, the new album totally slaps.

  5. I think the fact that Cardi B is always herself is such a driving force behind her success. She has said that she would not let the music industry change who she is as a person. Great post!
