Choosing My Voice Online

When it comes to social media that I use today, the most frequent app I find myself using is Twitter. This has been the case for a few years, but what has changed is the way in which I use the app. I didn’t start using my account until some of my friends convinced me during my junior year in high school. At that time, I strictly used it for personal communication with friends, whether the topic was related to something at school, latest memes and viral content, heated debates about music or sports.

At that point when I started using it, I had already been changed in the sense that my personality, opinions, and whatever I wanted to say to my classmates and friends was so easily accessible through a platform I had never been previously familiar with.

When I started college, my social media posts (Twitter especially) shifted heavily to focus more on branding myself.  As someone studying Sport Management and Public Communications, this shift in focus has been extremely helpful, as I now follow and connect with many great people throughout the industries. It also is extremely beneficial when it comes to the latest news.

While I still love to browse the app for the latest funny trends, the things I choose to post are much more planned and pointed than the things I previously carelessly tweeted. As a whole, social media has changed me in a sense of the way I choose to present my opinions and share my thoughts with others, both online and in real life.
