It’s great that Ellen Pompeo said what she said. But why does everyone lose their minds and jump for joy every time a white person shows that they are a decent human?
She didn’t say anything that many women of color haven’t said before. Things like this should be an expectation. https://t.co/6iPsmhdzB0

I love Ellen Pompeo so much. She normalizes the idea of diversity for other white people who don’t understand it. Instead of acting like she should be praised for it, she recognizes that it is NORMAL to want and have diversity and representation. https://t.co/hMVEa1D5Qg

All this talk about how Ellen Pompeo is a hero for speaking up about race in roles has me cracking cause she believes in reverse racism and uses the fact that her kids are half black to prove she’s not racist and can use certain words but okaY

What I thought was interesting — and we’ll likely never know for sure — but it looked like, as Ellen Pompeo was speaking, Emma Roberts was looking at the crew and creative team like “oh, shit, I didn’t even notice.” It’s damning in a different way and underscores Ellen’s point. https://t.co/G9nq8qBhuL

Ellen Pompeo’s viral interview has made its way across many twitter feeds. As an advocate for diversity, I was interested in watching it. I thought that Ellen Pompeo had eloquently pointed out a fault in diversity in media. It seemed to be very brave. However, when looking at tweets in response to the interview, I was surprised to see people arguing against Pompeo. Many people did not laud her response because everything she said is something that women of color already say, but it is listened to because she is a white woman. Also, other people were against Pompeo because of other racist ideologies that she proclaims, like reverse racism, while using her biracial children as a shield for hate she receives. One even compared her to Beto O’ Rourke who is lauded for his wonderful rhetoric, but has said racist ideas as well. Lastly, the majority of people lauded Ellen Pompeo for being an advocate for diversity and became “Stan” accounts for her. I think the conversation is important to have and I’m glad we can critically look at Ellen Pompeo as an advocate, but maybe she isn’t an ally as the Dictionary.com twitter account suggests.
