@emjaywatson’s Top 10 Tweets

The most successful tweet from this past semester that included the class hashtag was my tweet promoting a YouTube video made with a friend. This tweet currently has 757 impressions with 26 engagements. I knew any tweet in which I tagged my friend James would get engagements due to @GongoozleTV’s over 4,000 followers. Jame’s title for the video and thumbnail embedded into my tweet must have attracted attention as well as the hashtags I used. Since yoga is so popular, individuals looking for tweets about yoga would be likely to stumble on our video.

My next best tweet with the class hashtag was one that promoted my viral content challenge. I think this tweet did well primarily due to the bright colors of the image and the hashtags used. By mashing up two pop culture references, I can take advantage of two different markets. With this tweet, I had the opportunity to tap into Pixar’s audience as well as NBC’s and Parks and Recreation’s. The tweet has 422 impressions and 22 engagements.

Another time I used hashtags to maximize impressions was around Thanksgiving time. Whenever a holiday happens or there is a strong, longer-lasting hashtag that is trending, I try to think of some type of tweet to post or media to produce if I am trying to get engagement. This tweet has 360 impressions with 4 engagements. The actual video has 54 views and 3 likes. I also knew that tagging Erin in this post would help with impressions due to her 759 followers and reputation as a content creator.

One of my favorite tweets to come out of this semester was this one about Shia Labeouf’s movie marathon. It was all over social media that Shia was going to be live streaming himself watching all of his movies. I decided to tune in and take some screen shots with the eventual plan of making a BuzzFeed article about it. I never ended up making the article but I made sure to jump on the hashtag for the event while it was still trending and being talked about. The tweet hast 329 impressions and 11 engagements for a 3.3% engagement rate. I assume this rate is higher than other tweets because of how tailored to social media this event was.

A tweet with a 4% engagement rate is the one below. I think the story behind this tweet is what makes it funny and makes people want to interact with it. Not a lot of people’s phones experienced the Facebook bug that made the number of every post’s views public. Since this tweet is specific to the class and references the class, I think other students were eager to engage. It currently has 276 impressions and 11 engagements. It also contains a link with a kind of “click bait” title.

In one class, we talked about tagging influencers and using hashtags related to events or organizations they would be a part of. For the Newhouse Forward 50 event, I noticed Michael Weber was attending. I decided to tweet about the event as well as tag Michael Weber and I ended up getting a favorite/like from Michael Weber himself. Jumping on fresh hashtags seems to be the best way for me to get engagements. This tweet has 202 impressions and 5 engagements.

For a group assignment, our group looked at trending hashtags to figure out that Bloomingdales was in the media for an offensive advertisement. We collectively decided to tweet at Bloomingdales and suggest they donate to the It’s On Us campaign to make up for their offensive poster. This tweet got 213 impressions and 4 engagements. The engagements and impressions were due mostly to the fact that we grouped together to share each other’s tweets.

A tweet I had 13.3% engagement rate on with 27 engagements and 203 impressions was a pie chart I made. I used a function in Hootsuite to create a social influence chart. The chart shows how much each animal is talked about. I think when using a graphic, it is better to make a simple caption so that the content is not too dense. Plus, everyone likes animals.

Something I found interesting with the next tweet is that by tagging YouTube in my tweet, a lot of for-profit accounts started following me. Handles like “YouTube Talent” or “YouTube Behind the Scenes” would follow me and then through those accounts, more people would find me. I think the way this link embeds is appealing because it is well recognized that it is from Conan and Louis C. K. can be seen and recognized. It has 315 impressions and 15 engagements.

Another type of media that works well in Twitter is Soundcloud. Since I have a podcast with available graphics, it is important to make sure the first image seen conveys the podcast itself. I think that when people find my tweet and the hashtag “dreams” is there as well as a graphic that looks like a cloud, it is clear what the podcast is about and viewers are more likely to look at it. This tweet currently has 295 impressions and 7 engagements.
