Facebook has changed drastically over the past five years – whether it be design based, reaction to a photograph or even posting a status – the executives have made some questionable decisions. The most alarming choice that Facebook executives pursued was the shift in publisher audience development priorities. Now you might be thinking, what does all that jargon mean? Well, Facebook conducted an experiment that entailed manipulating the news feed of over half a million randomly selected users to change the number and timing of positive and negative posts seen.
Facebook MESSED UP.. big time! They completely betrayed the trust of their users and took advantage of their technological ability – crushing the empire.

It is rumored that the use of Facebook can tinker with its users emotions revealing that it could pose mental health risks. This was mainly utilized to see how the news feed changes would impact revenue. It is clearly noticeable that a majority of the users are very disappointed in the steps taken to improve the interface. @PMbeers and @CaptWonka demonstrate their frustration via Twitter (and they don’t hold back).
So far today on FB I have only seen news from NBC and ABC. Fuck you #FaceBook! #facebooknews

As for my mediocre recommendations, I believe that Facebook needs to step up their game to regain their power in the social media industry. They have clearly fallen behind as a social platform while Instagram and Snapchat continue to rise. It is super important for them to produce news feeds that appeal to their user base, but they need to update their current protocol. In turn this will help them attract the younger generations. Facebook is clearly becoming an outdated platform and in order to reverse that, the executives need to change the way they look at news feed updates. They should post updates based on what users like and would enjoy seeing. I believe that Facebook could easily make a comeback – they just have to regain their users trust.
I completely agree that Facebook must make strides to attract a younger generation of users. The platform has become so political and old that young people want nothing to do with it. I think that posting updates based on what users want to see and are interested in is a great way for the platform to gain trust back from younger people. This would be a refreshing way for the social media platform to shift into less politics and become a more personalized application.
