How Facebook has changed & How to fix Facebook

Facebook has changed over the years from being a trendy social platform where people wanted to be to one where users felt they had to be. I wish I could get rid of my Facebook, but it seems to be the easiest way for people who don’t have my number to contact me. On the rare occasion that I do find myself scrolling through my Facebook it is often only because I have already exhausted Instagram and I click on Facebook out of old habit. Too often I find strongly opinionated political posts followed by clickbait news links before finally finding a tasty video I can somewhat enjoy.

To fix Facebook they should stop trying to promote clickbait news and politics. Most people don’t want to see that on their feed anyway. Instead they should strip it down to a convenience platform. For older users Facebook can continue to act as a social network allowing them to share photos and leave posts on family members walls. For them this platform doesn’t feel stale.

For younger users who find more enjoyment on Instagram or other sites, Facebook can be a convenient messenger and data storage center. Facebook already stores basic data and allows for convenient logins to other apps without having to reenter data. In the last year Facebook Messenger become the third most popular mobile app. Messenger which used to be a simple platform connecting users now is more complex integrating third party services into the app. The Whole Foods Chabot gives recipes to users, while Salons allow for manicure appointments to be made in messenger.

Users can even exchange money or call a Lyft while staying within a conversation on messenger. If Facebook focuses on optimizing the these capabilities then they have a chance at fixing Facebook.
