Gaining Klout without the Goggles

Personal Influence Growth and Analysis: Top 10 Tweets/Posts

Influence:

Twitter was never a platform I felt drawn to using. To be completely honest, I was always the person who didn’t know what was socially acceptable to tweet. Let’s say; I did not feel very savvy when it came to Twitter. When starting my Twitter I began fresh, as my last Twitter account I started in High School and had previously deactivated. Seeing as I began new, I had zero followers. Throughout the past four months, I have used the skills I have learned in COM 427 to gain a following and create a voice for myself on Twitter. I currently have a following of 39 people, looking at 100% gain. When starting my account, I did not expect to gain a significant audience, as a majority of my strong ties do not use the platform. When looking at my Klout score, or a score to measure my online social influence, I began with a score of 23. After developing my Twitter account, I was able to raise my Klout score to 42! I believe that a few techniques I used throughout these four months that seemed to work for me were the use of rich media in my Tweets, as well as catching on to trending hashtags, reaching out to other users and increasing my engagement, as well as using trending emojis. By using emojitracker.com  I was able to watch in real-time what emojis were currently trending, I would often integrate these emoji choices into my tweets and replies. I also found that Twitter sparked my love for memes and gifs! Luckily, I found a majority of my followers also liked this type of post. Using original, as well as trending meme’s and gif’s I also was able to increase my engagement on Twitter and overall increase my social influence. A few moments where I found myself unsuccessful was when tweeting at unusual times of the day, either very early or very late in the day; it seemed that my followers were more likely to engage throughout the day or after the workday was over. I also found that when neglecting to use hashtags, I often would not receive much engagement. Although this was the case, I was able to realize these two results quick enough that they did not majorly affect my overall engagement on Twitter.

Execution:

On January 24th I tweeted for one of the very first times. Being new to the platform, I wasn’t quite sure what I was doing. When in doubt, include a meme!

This tweet was able to gain a total of 284 impressions, as well as three profile clicks, and three likes. Seeing as this was a tweet introducing myself to the platform, I am happy with the results of the engagement. This tweet was successful in bringing three users to my profile, as well as three people liked it, officially engaging with my tweet! I think by including a meme, as well as emojis and hashtags many users love, such as #MichaelScott and #TheOffice, I was able to draw in users.

On January 30th I tweeted again but including a gif of Blake Lively. This tweet included a famous quote from her, that is also incredibly relatable.

I believe that this tweet was successful in not only achieving engagement but also increasing my overall profile engagement because it was a silly and relatable post that included an extremely popular actress, allowing me to tag Blake’s twitter page, engaging with her following as well.

At the time, #Stormi #kyliejennerbaby and #kyliejennerpregnant were all trending hashtags, allowing me to engage with that audience which at the time consisted of users worldwide.

On February 14th, following the announcement of Kylie Jenner’s pregnancy. I tweeted an “in case you missed it” moment. I tweeted sharing the fact that Kyle had posted her first Instagram since previously falling off social media, as she was hiding her pregnancy.

Within this tweet, I was able to engage with the followers of Fox News, as I linked a tweet by their account referencing Kylie Jenner’s reveal of her baby, Stormi.

This tweet received a total of 339 impressions as well as 27 total engagements. This tweet also led four users to click on my profile. This tweet gained success due to my use of trending hashtags, as well as my timing. I tweeted this at the hight of the day, 12:00 PM, with two currently trending hashtags #TaxDay and #TaxDayProtest. My stance on tax day led me to carefully choosing my hashtags. I decided to include #TaxDayProtest as I was commenting on the unfairness of the tax incentive. I feel as if adding this hashtag allowed for me to reach the correct audience successfully.

Following a Skype call with Brenden Lee, @brenden3lee, with Twitter Communications, I decided to engage with him in hopes of receiving engagement back.

This tweet was not one of my most successful tweets, as it only received 48 impressions as well as five total engagements, though this tweet was just posted four days ago. Although not my most successful, I received engagement back from Brenden! Also, when analyzing my profile over the last week, this was one of the most successful tweets on my profile. Not yet one of my most successful tweets but it is one of my most recent, and so far has been receiving high engagement rates!

The knowledge I gained in COM 427 allowed for me to create a voice for myself on Twitter, as well as learn tools and other platforms to help me increase my engagement. I plan to continue to grow my Twitter profile, as I now feel like I know how to tweet, being comfortable enough to release my tweets from my drafts!
