It started with Myspace. I was a young scene queen who was filled with emotions best expressed by bands like Panic! At the Disco or My Chemical Romance, which you would immediately learn upon visiting my profile page. If you made it into someone’s Myspace Top 8, you knew your friendship was real. However, if you made it into my Top 8, it was out of necessity because I was 12 years old and engaged with approximately 4 people ever. Once my Myspace was hacked, I quickly moved on to bigger and better platforms starting with Facebook and eventually Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat. I think I can now comfortably admit I was addicted to my social media channels from the constant need to be connected, in-the-know, and as up-to-date as possible.

And honestly, social media use is exhausting. But necessary.

Social media is how I gain knowledge in all different facets of life whether it be current events or recipes or trending music or even the latest fashion. I use social media to connect with friends, colleagues, and family members. I use social media to express my opinions, share my photos, and most importantly, to take ugly selfies. I use social media because now, it IS the best way to stay connected no matter the platform. Besides, without social media how else would I know that My Chemical Romance is releasing a new album??
