On November 13, I monitored the hashtag #ImpeachmentDay on Twitter.
The majority of the tweets with this hashtag expressed users excitement for the first day of impeachment hearings for President Trump, like Alexis Carter’s tweet below. These users were hopeful and almost confident that Trump would face his fate of impeachment.
We've been waiting for this for too long #ImpeachmentDay
Can you imagine Obama doing all these terrible things: committing crimes, betraying our allies & still be the President?
Me neither. Cos he was a REAL President. Time has come to change the situation #ImpeachmentHearings pic.twitter.com/PMTmLhvZSM— Miss Carter-Shaw (@watchmyshaw) November 13, 2019
Some users, however, thought the idea of impeachment was a total “sham.” With Trump’s second term ending soon, some questioned “what’s the point?” like @edbailey1957.
#ImpeachmentDay is nothing more than a sham. The Democrats are trying to get rid of a duly elected President or make him unelectable next year. We are seeing our Constitution trampled on by the Swamp. Trump said he wanted to #DrainTheSwamp. It needs to be drained. pic.twitter.com/5CJNVlubyB

@DeadAimGunCon expressed his belief that even if Tump were impeached, the next president will exhibit the same behavior, suggesting a cyclical behavior across party lines.
I can't believe how many people are excited about #ImpeachmentDay. All of you fuckheads realize that once the President is out, we're going to get an individual who will do THE EXACT same things, if not worse. It doesn't matter if they are Republican or Democrat; it's all a show.

Aside from the tweets about the impeachment hearings, many criticized the Republican Party for backing Trump and helping cover up his wrongdoings in the election, as seen in MoveOn’s tweet below.
Trump tried to cheat in the 2020 election by extorting a foreign country, and Republicans are helping him cover it up.
And now, the public #impeachment hearing of Donald Trump begins at 10am ET Wednesday.#ImpeachmentDay #impeachmentHearings pic.twitter.com/es5jxv7DKO

@JRehling suggests that Republicans don’t care about Trump’s actions, but instead are upset that they are going to be revealed and might cause impeachment.
I feel like I can predict the future.
Today, Republicans in Congress are going to be very angry that a crime was revealed.
Not that it happened. They'll be fine with that. Happy about it.
Furious that it was revealed.
Watch it happen.#ImpeachmentHearings #ImpeachmentDay

Sue’s tweet shows the extent to which she believes Republicans are willing to protect Trump despite his actions.
Itβs amazing how low Republicans are willing to do to kiss the *ss of Trump. Republicans should never hold public office again. They will attack a decorated military patriot to protect a corrupt liar who puts his own greed ahead of America #CountryBeforeParty #ImpeachmentDay https://t.co/jJtztb8VUJ

As seen through these tweets, many users engage in political conversation on Twitter to express their opinions, no matter how unfiltered they may be.
